All I know, is that, my runaway didn't work so well. Running away from home is easy, but running away from foxes in the middle of nowhere isn't.
I guess that they were really hungry but before I could climb up a tree I found myself falling. There was some sort of gorge and I fell straight to the bottom landing on my belly.
Chapter One:
Spiderleg gasped as a two-leg fell right into the clearing. Firestar leapt out of his cave at the bottom of the rock wall right as things got worse. Four foxes jumped in after the two-leg kit. Spiderleg rallied his courage and jumped to the tail of one. He bit down hard and tasted blood right as teeth snapped near his face.
Battle yowels echoed in the close walls of the camp and cats poured towards the battle. Spiderleg dodged the first fox and bit the back leg tendon of another. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the ejder, Mousefur hiss with pleasure and scratch the eye of a mean looking fox. Apparently his former mentor still had some fight left in her. Spiderleg heard a screech of pain and death and looked to see his leader Firestar beneath a large fox. "No!" the warrior howled.
Suddenly a paw the size of a kit shot out and gripped the foul creature by it's neck. The black and brown tom gasped in surprise to see the half conscious two-leg clap her other hairless hand about the fox's muzzle.
Firestar was now limp and losing a life. Spiderleg bounded to his side and then turned back to the fox. The powerful deputy. Brambleclaw had joined the fight and Spiderleg flew to his side. The two-leg pounded the fox's face with her paw and it howled, or tried to howl in pain. It's had was still on it's mouth. The other foxes had run away and seeing this the two-leg let go.
Breathing hard it slumped to the ground and carefully the other cats approached. Spiderleg was eager enough to go nearer. He heard Ashfur, a grey warrior, hiss in the back ground as he sniffed it. The form stiffened and then swooned out of consciousness.
Spiderleg turned to see Firestar up and coming to the Two-leg. Leafpool the medicine cat had already brought out the herbs. "Brambleclaw!" Firestar called.
The tabby deputy trotted up, "Yes Firestar?"
"What do you make of it?" the leader asked sternly.
Spiderleg butted in, "Just so you know, she saved your life back there, er lives."
Firestar nodded thoughtfully but then his mate Sandstorm hissed, "We need to get it out of here fast. Two-legs are crazy things."
Spiderleg remembered the tails of the elders and how they themselves had had to travel from the ancient dwelling of the clans and come here in order to escape the death bringing work of the two-legs.
The young warrior turned as Leafpool joined the crowd and inspected the two-leg's wounds, "She's got some cuts from the fox claws on her side but worse than that is, she has a bone a bit out of place in her right ankle."
"How do you know it's a she?" asked Brambleclaw. The look Leafpool gave him made his tail fur curl. Embarressed, he mumbled something that soounded like sorry.
"Should I treat her, Firestar?" asked Leafpool. Spiderleg stared at his leader, wondering what his answer would be as the seconds seemed to turn to days.
"Yes." was the answer.
"What?" yoweled a voice, Spiderleg recoginized it to be from Cloudtail, the long haired, white tom. "You can't be serious! Those things are dangerous!"
A couple cats in the crowd agreed. Then the flame pelted warrior shook his head, "She helped us in battle. Would you not help a cat if they had done the same?"
"She's not a cat!" hissed the young warrior, Birchfall.
"Yeah! I say we chase her out. We don't want two-legs coming here, looking for their kit!" agreed Ashfur.
Spiderleg retorted, "She wouldn't be able to leave anyways! She's got a sprained paw!"
Leafpool nodded to the warrior in approval as Firestar yoweled, "Spiderleg is right. It will have to stay here until it's well. Leafpool, how long should that be?"
The medicinecat thought for a moment and then answered, "At least half a moon."
Ripples of unsettling talk ran through the cats. "That's it then." said Firestar, "Now, Brambleclaw, get some warriors to pull her to the side and under that big bush for some sort of shelter. Leafpool, do you have enough herbs for this?" the medicine cat nodded.
Brambleclaw bowed his head and then called, "Spiderleg, Cloudtail, Squirrelflight! Come on. Brackenfur, you too. We're gonna need some muscle." Spiderleg took his place and tugged on the front leg of the two-leg. Working together they dragged her under the bush beisde the stone border of the camp. She was still out cold but Spiderleg wonder what would happen when she awoke.
Chapter 2:
I woke up and felt a mild stinging in my side, when I turned about, I found myself staring at a group of cats! Surprised I tried to duck away, but as soon as I tried to move my foot, pain shot through it. Not horrible pain, but when I looked down at my ankle I found in some sort of splint. It was made of sticks and bark, tied together with strips of twisted grass.
Interrested, Spiderleg watched as Leafpool strode toward it. Surprised that the medicinecat showed no fear. She walked to the two-leg's side and tried to get a look at the claw marks. The two-leg stiffened and Spiderleg noticed Squirrelflight, crouch in case her sister got hurt. "Be careful." warned Firestar.
But the two-leg seemed to realize that she only meant to help her and Leafpool safely changed the cobwebs. When she returned to the gruop of awaiting cats Spiderleg noted, "It doesn't seem too dumb."
The golden pelted she-cat, Goldenflower, nodded her head, "After all it is only a kit."
The elder Mousefur flicked her tail in the air, "Some of the older warriors here may remember what a two-leg kit can still do."
This engaged Spiderleg's curiosity, "What happened?"
"Back in the old forest, I was caught by a two-leg kit. It's smelly paws pulled by leg out of it's socket." A hushed moment fell erily over the clan, this only added to their mistrust of the idea of a two-leg in thier clan.
Firestar finally broke the silence, "Spiderleg, I'd like you to lead a hunting patrol. We'll need extra fresh-kill for the two-leg."
"She probably eats a ton." murmured Cloudtail to his mate Brightheart.
"Like you." she said curling her ginger and white tail over his mouth.
Firestar continued, "Brambleclaw, I'd like you to lead a patrol. I don't want any other clans to find out about this. Meanwhile, Brakenfur, and Ashfur. You can guard the two-leg." The cats named nodded, but Spiderleg was already out of the camp with Birchfall and Brightheart at his heals.
They raced through the forest of oaks and bushes and made their way into the heart of the woods. There they seperated and dropped down into hunter's crouches. At the twitch of a rabbit's tail, Spiderleg knew he had found his target. Slowly, he crawled to it, until - - - whamp! he bit its neck bone in two and had made his kill.
Meeting back with the others he saw that they had also fared well. Birchfall held proudly, a thrush and the half blind Brightheart had caught a pair of mice. They trotted back into camp.
Spiderleg was axncious to see if the two-leg had caused any trouble, but instead he found it wide eyed and staring about. A tremmor nawed at his heart, what if when we let her go, she tells the other two-legs about us. Fear gripped him for a moment.
At that second it's hand reached out, a soft, long, claw wiggled at the base of Brackenfur's ear. Out of surprise that cat stiffened, but then instictivly purred as the gentle scratching increased. Spiderleg let out a mrrow of laughter at the ridiclous sight. When Squirrelflight looked over, the she-cat did the same. Hearing the laughs,
Brackenfur stopped and took a step away from the two-leg kit. It seemed to understand a bit and she made a high-pitched sqeak. TThen it did something strange. Spiderleg padded closer as it tried to vibrate her tongue. After a second noise came out. She was purring!
