A soft breeze blew across the lake, making the moorland grass sway. The rolling hills rippled like an ocean, and they glowed silver in the moonlight.
Farther across the fields was a river, which flowed down towards the lake below. The river's water all came from one source- the Moonpool.
The Moonpool was the place where the Clan's medicine cats spoke with StarClan. Tonight, the gibbous moon above made the pool shimmer like liquid starshine, and the quiet tumbling of the creek leaking into the pool was the only sound you could hear.
Quietly, an off-white paw landed on the rock surface beside the Moonpool. The brown tabby cat that the paw belonged to raised her head gracefully to survey her surroundings.
"Welcome, Leafpool." A voice that seemed to come out of the pool itself greeted her.
"Greetings, Feathertail," the tabby replied.
A starry pelted cat appeared beside her. The she-cat's bright blue eyes and silver pelt meant that she was indeed Feathertail.
Another cat appeared on Leafpool's other side. This one was also a she-cat, but with soft amber eyes and tortoiseshell and white fur. "We have called you here tonight to give you a message," she mewed.
"A message that you cannot ignore," Feathertail continued.
Leafpool turned to the tortoiseshell. "Spottedleaf, what could possibly be coming that's so bad that you have to give me a sign about it?"
Spottedleaf met Leafpool's own amber eyes and told her, "this sign is about forbidden love, tugging at loyalty to the Clan. You have experienced this once, have you not?"
"I have," Leafpool murmured. She knew that Spottedleaf was speaking of her love for Crowfeather.
"Well then, this message is trusted to you," Feathertail purred. "Thunder and Wind shall collide once again, all because of Golden Heather."
Leafpool was confused. "Golden heather?" she asked. "There's no such thing as golden heather… is there?"
Feathertail just shrugged. "You'll have to find out for yourself."
"We shall let you go now," Spottedleaf informed Leafpool. "Take the knowledge you've been given and use it well."
Dipping her head respectively to both StarClan cats, Leafpool backed away. "Thank you," she mewed. "Thank you."
The grass felt spongy under her paws as she ran back to camp. The wind buffeted her, chilling her. When she got to the forest, she slowed down to repeat the prophecy to herself.
Feathertail's voice rang in her head like the call of a bird. "Thunder and Wind shall collide one again, all because of Golden Heather."
