Tallstar stood before the ranks of StarClan. He awaited their judgement at his decision of making Onewhisker deputy in Mudclaw’s stead. He hoped he had made the right choice, and hoped StarClan agreed with him. A single cat stepped forward, one that looked like Tallstar.
He gasped, “Father?”
The cat nodded, “Yes, Tallstar. It is I, Patchtail, your father.”
Tallstar dipped his head in greeting, and Patchtail did the same.
Patchtail spoke again. “We honor your choice in making Onewhisker deputy before your death. Mudclaw would be a nuisance to all the clans, and perhaps…” Patchtail let it hang there.
“Perhaps what?” the former WindClan leader asked.
Patchtail looked at his son, his eyes filled with an emotion Tallstar could not read. “He may start a war between every clan along the lake.”
Tallstar gasped. “How?”
Patchtail began to pace. “He wants more territory for his clan, and perhaps will have do anything to get it. “
Tallstar looked at his father, unsure of what he could do to stop this. “What can we do?” He asked the cats of StarClan.
The starry warriors answered, as if one voice, “We will do what we must.”
