Prolouge The icey winds whipped at her back as the apprentice heaved forward. Snow had been forming on her head, and she shook it off. She squinted her eyes against the dark clouds, which bore more cold. She let out a cough. The spotted silver cat lifted a freezing paw to take a step forward, but then fell over on the snowy rocks. "Spottedpaw, are you still alive?" a voice called. A gray tom trudged over to her. The apprentice nodded slowly. "Yes..." Spottedpaw mewed, her voice crackling. Smokefoot bent over to her and nudged her to her paws. He brushed her back with his tail, swiping the frost off. "We'd better get a move on," he meowed. He pelted away to the front of the exiled cats. Spottedpaw closed her eyes, trying to remember how they got here... "Smokefoot," Thornstar had meowed. "We have come to the conclusion that you are a traitor." Thornstar had pelted over to the gray cat with a few other warriors. The golden tabby had stood there, gazing angrily at Smokefoot. "What?" The gray tom took a step back. "How?" "A prophecy had been sent to us that smoke would destroy our Clan," one of the warriors snarled. "You and a spotted stream. That would be Spottedpaw and Streampaw." Spottedpaw had overheard and backed away. Why would they have suspected her? When the warrior saw her, he threw the apprentice forward. Then another warrior had spotted Streampaw and dragged her... "Spottedpaw!" Streampaw bounded over. "We found a cave to sleep in!" The silver she-cat's blue eyes sparkled excitedly. "It's warm in there! C'mon!" The apprentice bounded away, kicking snow into Spottedpaw's face. She sighed then padded forward. It was to cold for her.

Chapter 1 Spottedpaw trudged into the cavern, her tail trailing in the snow behind her. The apprentice glanced around the cave, her blue eyes weary from travel. Streampaw had bounded in before her and had turned around to face the spotted she-cat. "We can rest here for the night!" The silver apprentice beamed. She darted past Spottedpaw to a corner near the opening of the cave. She rested by herself and curled up quickly. Streampaw closed her eyes but then blinked them open to Spottedpaw. "You coming?" she asked. Spottedpaw shrugged slowly. "Sure..." she replied. She padded over to her friend, who smiled as she came near. Spottedpaw stretched out her paws and laid her head onto them. The spotted she-cat began to drift to sleep, then overheard a voice. "Are you sure that we can make it?" a cat whispered. "Some of us look as if they could die any moment." After a hesitated pause, a reply came, "We must go on. Although we are exiles, there are others that would accept us." "But who?" ***** Spottedpaw awoke to the sound of a hawk screeching. She blinked her eyes open as the sunlight streamed in through the opening of the cavern. She took in a deep breath and rose to her paws. Even though it was cold, Spottedpaw felt like she could soar in the skies. "Oh, StarClan!" she recognized her friend's voice. "What a great sleep! I feel that I could walk for days!" Streampaw yawned then bounced up to her feet. The silver apprentice smiled then blinked her eyes sleepily. Spottedpaw nodded then rose also. "Spottedpaw." The apprentice whirled around to face Smokefoot, who was padding her way. She took a step back, then stopped where she was. Smokefoot soon arrived closer to her. "Would you like to go hunting with me?" He tilted his gray head to a side. Spottedpaw nodded. "Okay," she mewed. The spotted apprentice pelted out of the cave quickly, not waiting for Smokefoot. He yowled happily then sped on behind her.

Chapter 2 Her heart raced as she leapt over a couple tail-lengthed crevice. Her paws pounded on the snowy rocks as she ran. Her eyes were focused on something ahead: a hawk. Spottedpaw raced to a ledge then sprung into the air, then catching her balance on a stone frosted with snow. The apprentice then headed down a small path of rocks. She looked forward to see what lay ahead. A rocky trail plunged down a small hillside on the mountain, where it then led to another ledge. Its path then became smaller, eventually smaller than a mouse. A cliff lay beyond it, where the hawk was circling without notice. Spottedpaw let a smile appear. If she leapt for the hawk at the edge of the cliff, she could risk falling very far. But maybe a few tail-lengths of falling. It was a death-or-life hunt, and her belly rumbled with hunger. Spottedpaw reached the ledge and scrabbled for balance. She looked over the side of the ledge, seeing what would happen if she fell. It looked like one could fall forever, then eventually crash into a sharp rock. She winced as an image of Streampaw hurling to her doom appeared into her head. She shook it away then kept up the hunt. Now the leap for the hawk was near as she clambered onto the cliff. The wind was blowing at her, so the bird would not smell her. But it could see her. It let out a shriek as Spottedpaw sprang into the air. As her hind legs jolted from the rock, she pushed her front paws forward with her claws unsheathed. It was going to be close. The spotted she-cat's claws ruffled the hawk's feathers before snagging a grip on its skin. Spottedpaw mewed with pride then let her hind legs slide onto the hawk's back. She and her prey weren't flying for long; they began to hurl down. She pulled herself onto the bird's back then sank her teeth into its neck. It let out another shrill cry before falling limp. Spottedpaw glanced below her. About ten fox-lengths away lay ground. She quickly took to action. Spottedpaw's weight soon made her fall under her hawk. She pulled herself onto it, then they smashed into a rock. Spottedpaw jumped off her prey. Her first kill of their journey. Smokefoot's gonna love this, the apprentice thought to herself as she began to drag it away. She looked around for a way to get back up to her cavern.

awesome! you know wut i think would be great for this story? is if spottedpaw and streampaw fought over smokefoot for a mate, or a conflict like that. and how are the two apprentices going to become warriors with no clan leader or mentors?
