Disclaimer:Warriors belongs to Erin Hunter and Working Partners Ltd. The Brave Little Toaster belongs to Thomas Disch and *shudders* the Walt Disney Company. Also, I credit the creation of the word "fela" (she-cat) to Tad Williams, author of Tailchaser's Song.
If you haven't read and/or watched The Brave Little Toaster, and feel that you would like to before reading this, than please do! BLT is a novella, and should literally take you about 45 minutes to read. It is also, in my opinion, the best movie ever made by Disney, well worth watching. If you'd prefer to read on without reading/watching BLT, then you do so at your own risk.
The Forgotten Cats:
ShadowClan:
Deepgrowl: Solid gray tom, almost ready for his elder's ceremony
Loudmouth: White tom with ginger face, paws, and tail.
Glownose: A thin tom, pale gray with faint golden stripes. Has distinctive large yellow nose.
Brightpaw: Silver cat with huge, pale blue eyes.
Yellowkit: Whiney golden kit. Would be made an apprentice in one more moon.
Chillbreeze: A bitter and angry elder.
Outside of Clans:
Mossleg: Short brown tabby. A loner who admires the Clans.
A silver apprentice sat outside her den, impatiently waiting for Nightwing to arrive. Her mentor had the unpleasant job of prey-checker today; the prey-checker helped Littlecloud examine any prey from Carrionplace for disease. With so little prey around, Blackstar decreed that the task of prey-checking be shared by the warriors. Everyone agreed that this was the best choice, that he was wise to make that decision...at least until it was their turn to participate.
She spotted a small movement out of the corner of her eye. "Good Morning, Smokepaw." she greeted.
Smokepaw jumped. "How...how did you know I was here, Brightpaw?" he asked.
"I saw you."
"Oh...of course you did." he murmered warily. He then slinked away, casting fearful glances back at her.
She gave a snort of amusement. Nearly everyone in the Clan was afraid of her huge eyes, eyes that saw much and seemed to reflect everything.
Tawnypelt had never been afraid of Brightpaw's eyes. But she was gone now. They say she left the Clans for good along with her brother, and Firestar's daughter. This was cause for both amusement and hostility in ShadowClan, amusement that the Great Firestar's daughter left his Clan to be with Tigerstar's son, and hostility that Tawnypelt felt the need to go with them.
Brightpaw did not feel anger toward Tawnypelt, however, but jealousy. A part of her wondered if she was having an adventure, and wished she could go on one too.
She watched to moon get higher into the sky, focused on the glowing orb... and was surprised to see a cat appear before her, a cat with a pelt as black as a starless night sky.
"Who are you?" she inquired in amazement.
"Do not fear for Tawnypelt, young friend." the cat told her. "She is on a great adventure, but don't despair, for you are going to have one as well."
"Didn't you hear me? Who ARE you? Wait, I'm having an adventure! Tell me what you mean?"
"I am Nightstar, young one, but I must go now."
"Wait!"
But her cry was ignored, and Nightstar faded away.
After all, he still had to deliver the message four more times.
Conveniently, two of the cats he wished to see were together at the time. The two friends Glownose and Loudmouth were hunting together in a moonlight glade.
"Such romantic lighting" commented Glownose.
"Uh huh..." Loudmouth responded curiously. "You'll have to take a she-cat here sometime." He gave Glownose a glance.
Glownose smiled warily and began to groom his tabby fur. "Of course."
Loudmouth stopped stalking a mouse to gaze at Glownose. "Unless you..."
"Do you think...?"
They both spoke at once and stopped awkwardly, and each stopped to wait for the other to speak, but before either could, a loud thunderclap split the silence and they were no longer alone.
The newcomer immediately began, "Don't be afraid"
Glownose ceased running in fear at this command.
"Who are you?" cried Loudmouth.
"I am Nightstar. I come before you to warn you of great danger ahead. Both of you must make a difficult journey..."
Both cat's widened their eyes.
"...a physical journey that will take you far from this place."
"Oh." Loudmouth blurted.
But Glownose still had a pressing question for the black spirit: "What do you mean?"
But Nightstar disappeared, his eyes filled with the pleasure that all StarClan cats get from denying information.
Nightstar's next stop was to a small kit, only a few moons old.
"I am Nightstar." he started. "Young Yellowkit, you will soon take a great journey, but do not fear, for you shall not be alone."
The kitten pulled herself away from her dozing mother's pelt just long enough to sleepily blink her eyes at this dream-cat.
"Whaddya mean?" she asked, but fell asleep before he could answer.
The next cat for Nightstar was the old warrior Deepgrowl, who, unlike Yellowkit, could not return to sleep so easily. Thusly, he was very angry to be awoken.
"I am Nightstar. Do not be afraid. You will go on a great journey." He said this all quite quickly, as he was getting quite tired of repeating himself, and hoped that Deepgrowl had not noticed.
"How dare you wake me up for that!" Deepgrowl hissed in his low voice. "I was having the best dream about being made an elder! Go away!"
"But... don't you want to know what I mean?"
"NO!"
Now Nightstar was confused. Every cat visited by StarClan asked what they meant.
"Are you sure?"
"YES! Now go away!"
Nightstar had never had this happen before. "Are you really sure?"
"Yep. Sure am." The gray warrior growled menacingly.
"But...well, I..." he hesitated. "But I have very important information about this journey."
"Don't wanna hear it!"
"Your journey will parallel that of the Brave Little Toaster!"
"The brave little what?!?"
But Nightstar had disappeared again, felling quite pleased with himself.
Far away, a young kittypet awoke from an odd dream, a dream about a silver cat resting in a sunbeam...
