Title: Torn
Chapters: 1
Author: Meeee!
Pairing: SorrelXBracken
Rating: PG
Spoilers: TNP
Summary: Starry eyed and disillusioned by her love for Brackenfur, Sorreltail doesn't relize how much he's changed since he became Deputy until its too late.
Warning: Flangst, Character Death
Disclaimer: The plot is OWNED BY MEH XD. But sadly, everything else is not.
Note From Author: I love Songfics XD. Maybe this should be in rewrites because Brackenfur becomes deputy not Brambleclaw. Anyway, the song is being sung by Sorreltail, and the story takes place in the past from the song if that makes sense.
THIS IS NOT THE EXACT STORY BECAUSE OF THE CHANGES I HAVE MADE.
[I thought I saw a man brought to life
He was warm, he came around like he was dignified
He showed me what it was to cry]
Sorreltail purred as she snuggled up to Brackenfur. He smiled down on her. Right now, even in all the darkness that had swallowed her clan, Brackenfur made everything better. She loved him so much and he loved her back, and nothing could break the smile on her face.
"ThunderClan cannot survive without a deputy. I must come to terms with the fact Graystripe is in StarClan, and that we need a deputy. I have come to a decision I know Graystripe would be proud of. The new deputy of ThunderClan is Brackenfur." Brackenfur walked up to his leader in shock. "Graystripe would be proud to see his apprentice become Deputy" Firestar murmured to him. Cheers of "Brackenfur!" rippled around the clan.
Brackenfur stepped down, a smile on his face. Sorreltail oblivious to how much he would change.
[Well you couldn't be that man I adored
You don't seem to know, don't seem to care what your heart is for
But I don't know him anymore]
"Brackenfur? Brackenfur!" Sorreltail ran happily over to her mate. "Not now Sorreltail!" His head whipped around, eyes darkened in a emotion Sorreltail never thought possible by her beloved love. The tortoishell sat, dumbstruck, in the middle of camp. Why was he so angry? Maybe it was just the pressure of his new position. The tawny tom walked away, ready to lead the sunhigh patrol. Sorreltail shook away all bad notions. That was it. He was just under pressure. Still, she couldn't help but feel pushed away from him. He seemed so distant and far-away.
[Theres nothing where he used to lie
My conversation has run dry
Thats whats going on, nothings fine I'm torn]
Days passed and Brackenfur became more and more dark and violent. Sorreltail couldn't understand what had happened to the warm, friendly, loyal tom he had once been. He was a different cat. He was driven by a powerful passion to serve his clan, and in his eyes, Sorreltail was just a obstacle that had to be overcome. She didn't know what to do, she was torn between holding on and hoping he would come out of this, or try and support this "new" Brackenfur. She was more than torn between that, Her whole heart felt torn in two.
[I'm all out of faith, this is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn
You're a little late, I'm already torn]
Suddenly Sorreltail was hurtled head first into one bad scenario after the other. She was expecting his kittens. She didn't know whose - The kind, loving Brackenfur, or the dark, twisted Brackenfur. She lied down on the cold forest floor, crying. It was too late now. The silly daydreams and illusions of a perfect life shattered before her eyes. She had kept faith that maybe he was just lost inside, and maybe he could shine again. But she had ran out of that.
Then the badgers attacked.
Leafpool deserted her, which crushed Sorreltail, and she was giving birth in the midst of the battle. Cinderpelt was with her in the nursery. Everything after that happened so quickly. She heard the terrified yowl of Cinderpelt as the badger struck her down, and then the badger was thrown out of the nursery, its whole entrance covered by a huge silhouette. Lightning crackled behind him and Sorreltail knew what she had done.
She had killed his sister.
[So I guess the fortune tellers right
Should have seen just what was there and not some holy light
To crawl beneath my veins and now
I don't care, I have no luck, I don't miss it all that much
Theres just so many things that I cant touch, I'm torn]
Brackenfur's eyes drifted toward the slumped gray body of Cinderpelt. Sorreltail cowered in the shadows of the nursery, the mewling kits by her belly silencing with the deafening presence. StarClan, what had she done to deserve there wrath? Was there a prophecy fortelling this she never knew about? Maybe, Maybe Brackenfur was always like ths. Maybe she had viewed him like a god, maybe she thought he was perfect.
She felt like crawling into a corner and dying.
Brackenfur's eyes were filled with grief and anger. He gave Sorreltail such a look, that she knew it would burn into her heart forever. Whenever she closed her eyes that look would be imprinted on the back of her eyelids for eternity. The tawny tom looked at her, and then he walked out.
[Im all out of faith, this is how I feel
Im cold and I am shamed lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed into something real
Im wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn
Youre a little late, Im already torn. torn.]
She lied on the cold nursery floor, tears slithering down her face. The battle echoed outside, and she could hear the dying breaths of her clanmates. She could hear bodies slumpng into the muddy ground, grieving screams. The angry grunts of the badgers as they mercessly slashed through her clan. Blood began to trickle, mixed with mud, into the nursery. The kits whined pitifully, and Sorreltail watched her paws dye red with the blood of her clanmates and Cinderpelt. She couldn't take it anymore.
[Theres nothing where he used to lie
My inspiration has run dry
Thats whats going on, nothings right, Im torn]
Sorreltail swept her kits into the saftey of the back of the nursery, before running outside into the battle. A flurry of claws. She threw herself in, attacking the badgers with every last scrap of her strength. Everything she had left, she poured into that battle. But she knew, she did have anything left really. She had nothing left to live for.
[Im all out of faith, this is how I feel
Im cold and I am shamed lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed into something real
Im wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn
Im all out of faith, this is how I feel
Im cold and Im ashamed bound and broken on the floor
Youre a little late, Im already torn]
"Sorrel!" Brackenfur ran over to the bloody mess of tortoiseshell fur in the mud. His face had softened, his eyes had become filled with worry and regret. The darkness melted away. "Oh Sorrel!" he put his tail on her shoulder. Sorreltail weakly looked up at him. "Your a little late. Im already torn" Her body was covered in scratches and wounds, and slowly, heaved a painful breath, and closed her eyes.
