It was perfect. We were perfect. I could almost see the stars twinkling in her eyes. I felt her soft fur brushing against mine. Our hearts beating together as one.
"I love you, Jaypaw," She mewed to me under the stars, and she pressed her warm cheek against mine. "But you're a Medicine Cat."
I felt a twinge of anger. "I don't care. It won't change anything," I said fastly, my heart starting to beat faster.
I felt Heatherpaw's fear coming off her in strong waves. If only I could see her scared face, and comfort her. But no words came out of my mouth, as if something was holding them back.
And something was.
I felt my brother's gaze boring through the back of my head, and I pinned back my ears. Hate and disgust was radiating off him strongly, and so much of it that I wanted to yowl and scream.
"Jaypaw, I.." Heatherpaw hesitated. "I think Lionpaw... h-he loves me."
No! I gritted my teeth. "And.. you love him." I choked on a lump that formed in my throat. I wanted to leap at Lionpaw, who was spying on us from a bush. The hate was more strong now, so much stronger that I cringed and dug my claws into the ground, panting.
"Oh, oh Jaypaw." A tear rolled down the she-cat's soft cheek. "I feel like my heart is torn in two." She stood up. "But.. I'm sorry Jaypaw. It isn't right for us to be together. Your A medicine cat and what's worse is that.. you're ThunderClan."
She tore down the hillside, the shadows soaking her up. I was left behind, torn and crushed in every possible way. My heart was shattered and slashed by an invisible claw. I turned and skid down the hill, leaping down the last few foxlengths. I met Lionpaw, and then something happened. Images that I had never seen before appeared. And then, everything became clear.
I saw the moor for the first time in my life, the long grass fluttered in the wind, and I looked at Lionpaw. His amber eyes were clouded with pain and betrayal.
"Jaypaw," He growled, "have fun with Heatherpaw?"
I shoved past him, my eyes fixed on the forest. It was so beautiful, so mysterious. The stars were shining brightly, like icy fire.
I learned something that night. Even though it may be wrong, or painful, love is a savior.
