The dark of night was settling in over the lakeside camps. Leafpool slipped out of the medicine den, grateful to StarClan that she had no apprentice. The moon was a sliver of white that faintly illuminated the path into WindClan territory. As promised, Crowfeather was waiting at the border. His feelings were often gaurded and reserved, but Leafpool could feel anxiety rippling through his pelt.
" Leafpool, this is our third meeting this moon. I love you, but I can't!" In utter frustration, his muscles rippled. " I love you, Crowfeather, but I'm a medicine cat. It just, we-" She broke off, scrambling for words, but Crowfeather covered her mouth with his tail. " I want you to come with me, away from our Clans. We can have kits and create LightClan!" His dark amber eyes grew dull at the likely prospect of refusal. But Leafpool looked up. "We shall leave at daybreak!"
On the boulder up in the midst of WindClan territory, Crowfeather hunted a rabbit for himself and a mouse whom had ventured onto the moor for Leafpool. The pale violet began to take place of black. " Its time to go. Just never look back." Leafpool wanted with every fiber of her being to resist her words, but it was too little too late.
Crowfeather guided her into a foothill of the mountains. Not even Stormfur and Brook were in the mountains to comfort her. It was too late. The stale scent of badger filled her nose as a jolt of fear shot through her. The mountanous trail lay before them, and she looked toward Crowfeather for a reasuring light, but his eyes were cold as stones.
" Do you really love me!?" Leafpool blurted. Crowfeather nervously kneaded the ground with his paws. " I don't know. I love Feathertail, Nightcloud of my own Clan, and you. I'm being torn! I love Feathertail with my heart and mind, and you because you remind me of her. But Nightcloud is in my Clan, and we were sort of mates." Leafpool rejected his forlorn glances. "So my Clan is possibly dying, while I'm lost in the mountains with a liar!" And the fate of all the CLans rested upon one fatal mistake
