(Disclaimer - I didn't make up the clans or characters. Erin Hunter did and I give her all credit and honor)
Ratting - G (maybe PG because little kids wouldn't get the mushy stuff)
Spoilers - big time!
Summary - Tigerclaw has been outlawed from Thunderclan but hasn't joined ShadowClan yet. He comes to kill Firestar in the dead of night - but Goldenflower appears.
His unsheathed claw dung into the ground. - Her beauitful gold pelt rose up and down. - His eyes sparkled with the thought of bloodshed. - Her tender heart was filled with love for her unborn kits.
Tigerclaw had crept through the hole in the bramble wall beside the nursery and now inches silently across the clearing. His tabby pelt blended with the shadows. His lips twisted in hate, yet in pleasure at the thought that Fireheart would die tonight. Firestar! He spat to himself without making a sound I should be the one leading this clan
--------
Goldenflower snapped awake at the kick of one of her unborn kits. "Lively little things." she whispered to herself. Not feeling tired she rose and padded to the entrance of the nursery, there she sat in the full moonlight. On the other side of the camp, the night guard, Longtail, had fallen asleep. Typical though it was, it unnerved the she-cat. Esceailly when she heard the tiniest rustle of bramble near the leader's den.
Immediatly she jumped up. Moonlight glinted off of large claws as they crept out of the shadows. The moon reflected itself in two eyes the color of liquid amber. "Tigerclaw." she breathed in surprise. Before she could stop herself she was in front of the dark tabby and guarding Firestar's den.
"Goldenflower!" he hissed. Tigerclaw's eyes widened, but only a bit. The queen stood her ground as a paw with unusally large claws took a step towards her. "Get out of the way." he said quietly.
"Tigerclaw." the she-cat heard a pleading note in her voice, "Don't do this. Please, you don't have to be evil."
The tom snapped his ears in her direction, "I'm not evil. I only want the best for my clan, and that means getting that kittypet out of the way."
Sadness creeped into the depths of her eyes, "Tigerclaw, leave."
"Do you think you can stop me?" He hissed, flexing his muscles.
---Suddenly memories flashed into the queen's mind. Eacho only taking a fraction of a second. She saw herself as a tiny aprentice. Not far from her nose the apprentice Specklepaw hissed, "Get lost! whimp."
Then a flash of taby fur came up besider her, "Leave my friend alone Specklypaw!" it meowed. The Goldenpaw purred.
Another came in which she saw herself and Tigerclaw as new warriors sharing their vigual, thier pelts pressed against one another's in warmth and love. - - - -
But that seemed to be over now. And Goldenflower prepared to fight for her clan, against her former clanmate.
Tigerclaw bent his back in a crouch and launched himself at her. Goldenflower landed on her back and unsheathed her weapons. She was about to whirl her front paws at him when cold, long claws, like daggers of wild ice curled into her neck fur. She froze as did the tom on top of her.
Goldenflower could do nothing, she was caught the wells of Tigerclaws eyes. She saw ambition, power, but she also saw regret. His lips formed her name, but nothing came out. The clawpoints now pressed her skin, daring it to bleed. Then the weight was off her, and for the first time in his life the tabby tom looked uncertain, as she got up.
"Tigerclaw." she groaned quietly, "Don't leave me."
The tom slowly took a step toward her, "Goldenflower, I love you, but - but-"
The queen realized what he was going to say. He wanted power more. He was a slave to his own evil path he had chosen. Goldenflower pressed her head to his shoulder, "Then, this is goodbye."
And for the last time golden tabby fur mingled with that of a tiger in shadow and then he left. Goldenflower had saved her clan's leader but had lost her love. "Well," she said peering up at the moon's rays, "I guess he was lost anyway."
