Silverpaw held her head high and her silvery coat gilttered in the sunlight. Her mentor, Mistyfoot stood beside her, her eyes full of pride.
"Silverpaw, please step forward," her father and leader, Crookedstar said. "Do promise to uphold the warrior code and fight for your clan, even at the cost of your life?"
"I do," the small cat replied, her whole body shaking.
"Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your warrior name: Silverpaw, from this moment forward you will be known as Silverstream. StarClan welcomes you a full warrior of RiverClan."
"Silverstream! Silverstream!" The clan chanted. The newly named warrior began to giggle with joy. Silverstream! she thought. I am Silverstream!
"Meeting dismissed!" called Crookedstar.
"Congratulations Silverstream!" Stonefur, Mistyfoot's brother said.
"Thanks," said Silverstream. Crookedstar came up behind them. "My daughter," he said. "You don't know how proud I am of you."
"I think I have a pretty good idea Daddy," she said smiling. Mistyfoot and Stonefur exchanged amused glances. Most cats didn't keep a strong relationship with their parents, but Silverstream had managed. Plus, to them, Crookedstar was a respected leader. But not to Silverstream, to her, her dad was her hero.
"Come on Silverstream," Mistyfoot said. "We need to get you a nest in the Warrior's Den. And the two went off. The floor of the den was smoothly patted moss lined with shells and shiney rocks. The ceiling was a tangle of brambles covered in flowers.

The next day, Silverstream had her first solo hunting trip as a warrior. Suddenly, she heard a terrified yowl. Siverstream's head popped up to see what was happening. She saw a cat in the water trying to get to shore, the RiverClan shore. Without thinking, Silverstream jumep into the water and grabbed the cat as he came tward her.
He was too heavy! His weight pulled both of them under the water. StarClan help me! she prayed. Siverstream kicked her legs with all her might and surfaced. She manged to pull him to the ThunderClan border, and both of them lay there, exasted.
When Silverstream got her strength back, she was good and angry. So angry, that she hardly noticed when three other cats came running down the shore. "You idiot!" she spat at the gray cat. "What were you doing on my territory?"
"Drowning?" he asked.
Silverstream found this rather funny. "Well, can't you drown yourself in your own territory?"
"Aww," he said playfully. "But who would rescue me there?"
Silverstream giggled. This cat was quite charming.
"Look, Graystripe," an orange tabby said. "We've got to get out of here."
"I know," said the gray cat. "Thanks for saving me." he said to Silverstream.
Siverstream dipped her head to him. "Now go!" she said. "If my father knew I rescued a ThunderClan intruder he'd shred me for kit bedding!"
"Why did you save me then?" the gray cat teased.
Silverstream felt her cheeks growing hot. "Instinct," she said quickly. I couldn't let another cat drown. Now go!"
"Wait," he said. "What's your name? Mine's Graystripe."
"Silverstream."
With that, they left. Silverstream swam easily across the river. She carefully washed herself so no scent of ThunderClan was left. Silverstream quickly got a fish and thought up an excuse for bringing back so little. But the whole time she was glowing with happiness. Graystripe! She couldn't take her mind off him.
When she got back to camp, she was greeted by Mistyfoot. "There you are!" she said, and then saw Silverstream's fish. "That's all you caught! And you're all wet! What happened?"
Oh, no, she thought. "Oh Mistyfoot!" she said. "It is just such a beautiful day! I got so distracted while I was fishing, that I accedently fell into the water and scared the rest of the fish."
"Okay," Mistyfoot replied suspisously.
Silverstream put on her best innocent face and said a silent prayer to StarClan.
