A silver pool glittered in the center of a clearing, a stream running from it down the steep cliff to the shining expanse of the lake beyond. The clearing was filled with a million pairs of eyes, all staring intently into the pool. One bowed its muzzle and spoke. "She is the one." The wise figure spoke, sending a ripple of shock amongst the lithe warriors "Surely not, she is a Twoleg, an elder Twoleg kit at that!" A golden tom replied with utmost surprise "Lionheart, she is no normal Twoleg, she knows of us, she searches but she cannot find us. She is the one who shall deliver the prophecy. She is the only one who can save us." The gray she-cat replied "Yellowfang? What is the prophecy? What have you seen?" A blue and silver she-cat meowed Yellowfang’s eyes widened "Blood will turn to ice, the day into night, sunrise to moonrise. The pawsteps of time the way will show, by the fallen they begin." An old she-cat trembled, a tom of the same age nodded sadly. "Which cat will bring her?" a voice yowled "Cinderpelt shall bring her, for Cinderpelt this Twoleg kit knows" Chapter 1 A blizzard blew fiercely outside, snow inches thick piling up. Niala stared intently into the pages of a book, thoughts spinning through her mind. She had been reading Warriors and had just reached the bit where Cinderpelt dies. This bit always troubled her, and as she looked out into the snow, a gray, icy eyed feline stood, her pelt rippling. Niala recoiled in shock, it looked exactly like Cinderpelt! Her mother was out, and some instinct told her to go out to the cat. She grabbed her coat and pulled a hat over her fawny red hair, her green eyes sparkling with anticipation. Cinderpelt saw her coming, and bowed her head. She was quite something this twoleg. Definitely ginger pelted, with flecks of white? The twoleg approached, and Cinderpelt nodded and spoke “Welcome, I see you have faith in us, twoleg.” Niala gasped, it really was Cinderpelt! “My name is Niala, Cinderpelt. Why have you come here?” She questioned with true curiosity “We need you Niala, a danger is coming, and a prophecy is to be fulfilled. Your prophecy.” Cinderpelt spoke, wise and somber “Me? Why me? I’m not even a cat!” Niala babbled “StarClan gives you an offer Niala. I understand you are not happy with life at the moment, your mother is harsh to you, and you have no father. We can give you freedom, the life of a warrior, if you swear to help us…” Cinderpelt gazed up at her Cinderpelt was right. Her mother was always drunk and abusive and she had no father. She could have what she wanted so dearly, to be loyal and to feel like she belonged. She paused and thought. Then she knew. “Cinderpelt, I accept StarClan’s offer.” “Very well Niala, very well...” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Leafpool trembled in her troubled sleep, her amber eyes squeezed shut, trying to hide the single tear that fell slowly down her cheek… Inhaling deeply the comforting smell of wildflowers soothed her. “Hush, little one. We are here.” A voice spoke softly. Surprised, Leafpool opened her eyes and stared into the soft orbs of Spottedleaf. Another cat stepped forward “You must be Yellowfang” Leafpool whispered, her mentors mentor! “Blood will turn to ice, the day into night, sunrise to moonrise. The pawsteps of time the way will show, by the fallen they begin.” A voice harsh with age meowed. The voice belonged to the old grey she-cat who smelled of tangy herbs The two cats faded away leaving nothing but a trace of stars. Leafpool gasped as many cats stepped forward, their eyes blank, white. They were in a sort of trance and in a sickening jolt of realization, Leafpool knew who they were. Clan Cats. She saw her sister, Tawnypelt, Crowfeather, even Mothwing all among the blank eyed felines. She let out a cry before she awoke with a start. “Leafpool? You okay?” A friendly mew asked Leafpool blinked away the sunlight from her eyes and saw her sister’s worried face peeking in her den. “SQUIRRELFLIGHT!” Leafpool cried, bounding to her sister “Leafpool, are you sure your okay?” Squirrelflight mewed, backing away slowly Leafpool calmed down and nodded “Yeah sure” Squirrelflight smiled and padded away. Leafpool thought back to last night. “Blood will turn to ice, the day into night, sunrise to moonrise. The pawsteps of time the way will show, by the fallen they begin.” She suppressed a shiver and padded out of her den. A few minuets later she was heading towards Firestar’s den, her thoughts still far away. Cinderpelt’s death still felt red raw, How Crowfeather had found someone else. She knew they could never be, but it still hurt. Jaypaw made her fur crawl, He had so much promise, but he wouldn’t see sense in her words, he was bitter and harsh, and she knew that he would not care properly for his Clan. Why had she failed? But it was all too soon she was at the mouth to her fathers den, and she had to focus on the matter at hand. “Firestar?” She called into the den “Come in, Leafpool” His warm mew replied. Leafpool padded inside, and touched noses with her father in greeting. “What is the matter Leafpool? Has StarClan sent you a sign? They have been silent lately.” Her father questioned “I am afraid so Firestar. They have sent a prophecy.” She felt a bolt of pure ice run down her spine as the image came back and she repeated the words. “Blood will turn to ice, the day into night, sunrise to moonrise. The pawsteps of time the way will show, by the fallen they begin.” She mewed “I saw all these clan cats come towards me, there eyes white and emotionless, they were in a trance…” She trailed away. Firestar shuddered as he remembered a few words that had disturbed his sleep a moon ago. “When blood turns to ice, all will be lost. That’s what she told me, and she would never lie” he meowed “Who Firestar? Who has told you this?” Leafpool nuzzled her father “Spottedleaf did, my dear Spottedleaf did” He looked down sadly Leafpool knew that the first medicine cat her father had ever met, Spottedleaf, was close to Firestar, and had helped in Tigerstar’s dark reign, even though a ShadowClan cat had killed her moons and moons and moons before he was discovered and exiled. She licked his muzzle and walked out.

Chapter 2
Cinderpelt closed her eyes and spoke. “I bear down from StarClan, to this Twoleg, I shall now repeat the ancient Incantation that has been used only once in the past, Let this be the only other time such action is to be taken.” She opened her eyes that were no longer blue, but deep inky black “Thy human, thy feline, let thy bodies be switched. Make thy human, thee one standing beforeth thy paws, a feline, a warrior; a cat looked over by us. Let her learn to be one of us, in return for her human form. NYAAA!” Cinderpelt screeched, and Niala was swallowed by a blinding bright light that grew fainter as Cinderpelt’s eyes became bluer again. When the light had faded, a beautiful gingery-gold she-cat with emerald eyes with white paws and tail stood where Niala was. Cinderpelt smiled as Niala examined her new form. Niala flicked her new tail and dropped into a wonky hunters crouch as she prowled with her new heightened senses. Cinderpelt bowed “Come Niala, we must take you to the Moonpool, so you may be blessed with your apprentice name.” “Apprentice?” Niala spoke, puzzled. “I thought I would be a warrior?” Cinderpelt laughed “All in good time, first you must learn the ways of a Warrior” Niala nodded as the pair padded up a path of stars, to StarClan. When they arrived, Niala gasped as she found herself padding down with the other StarClan cats to the beautiful Moonpool. Settling down among the circle of cats, Niala looked around. She recognized Bluestar and Tallstar and many others.
“Welcome Niala. We have much to discuss.” Bluestar spoke proudly. Yellowfang stepped forwards and repeated the prophecy. Niala nodded as all the cats spoke in perfect rhythm. “We have decided you shall have a special bond with us, almost as if you are with us as you can visit us anytime by looking at Silverpelt and calling. You must follow your heart to choose your clan, and you may enjoy the life of a warrior to the full. But you must not, under any condition, fall in love. This will endanger your life when your time comes, and if we lose you, all is lost. You are the new fire to save our clan, but you will save all the clans if you succeed. We shall now bless you your apprentice name. From this day on, you shall no longer have the name Niala. You shall be known as Duskpaw.” Duskpaw yowled in joy.
Leafpool looked up to the sky, the moon faintly visible in the sky even now. It would be a Gathering tonight. As she padded down to the lake shore with Jaypaw to collect herbs, she saw a strange she cat she had never seen before floating on a bed of stars above the water. She blinked, and she was gone. Shaking off the event, she tried to focus on the matter at hand. Jaypaw obviously sensed her anxiety and wandering thoughts. She looked away from her apprentices gaze, wishing not to look into his blind eyes. She and Jaypaw went back to camp, Leafpool still thinking about that cat. She padded into her den to rest before the Gathering. She awoke hours later. Grabbing a mouse, she padded over to the Highrock.
Finishing her meal, Leafpool saw Firestar step out. “Brambleclaw, Greystripe, Leafpool...” he said, trailing a list of names of those who would go to the Gathering. A group of cats started to gather by the entrance to the hollow, ready to go to. Firestar took up the lead and they began their way to the Island. WindClan passed by as Firestar and his clan walked through the territory. Leafpool noticed Crowfeather, and the look in his eyes broke Leafpool’s heart all over again. She knew they could never be together, not only because of different clans but because she was a medicine cat. So why did she feel so upset that Crowfeather had the strength to go on, even with the loss of Feathertail. She shook the thoughts of her head as they began to cross the slippery log. As they were crossing, a WindClan apprentice slipped. Leafpool quickly caught him before realizing it was Crowfeather’s son, Breezepaw. Leafpool put him down on the Island quickly and looked away. As she padded over, her sister looked at her with worried eyes. “You aren’t still thinking about him are you Leaf?” Squirrelflight mewed, sensing her sister’s sadness. Leafpool sighed “No, Squirrel, no. Not anymore. How can I? My clan is my love, I am bound to it like a spider to its web. I cannot think about him anymore.” And with that, Leafpool padded away and sat next to Ashfur.
The first leader to speak was Onestar. “We are gathered hear tonight to welcome a new warrior. I believe her name is Dus….” He was cut of by loud rustling from a bush, out padded Duskpaw, her pelt glittering in the moonlight. A gasp went up from some of the newer warrior toms. Her green eyes surveyed the cats. She could put names to every one. A shaft of moonlight picked her out, like a angel, and she spoke, clearly and confidently. “I am Duskpaw. Please guide me to your ways so that I may help you. Much I know already, but most I do not. My Clan is StarClan, but I must let my heart, not my paws, lead the path to which clan here I should choose to join.”
The cats were gobsmacked as she spoke. A wise, yet young cat could be a valuable addition to any clan, but any cat could see the pure gold light radiating off her, and many knew that ThunderClan would be the way her heart lead her, for that is the will of StarClan. Firestar was a strong leader, and if anyone was to help them, it was to be Firestar. The Clan leaders bowed their heads, and greeted Duskpaw. And then it happened.
A star plunged to earth, just outside the ThunderClan camp. A wispy figure emerged, padding towards the camp. The gathered cats saw it, and the Gathering was called over as the cats rushed to find out what had happened. Why had a cat from StarClan come to them? Why had it fallen? Was it the fallen warrior that the prophecy said the Pawsteps of time would begin from? Firestar stopped dead in his tracks as he saw the wispy she-cat walk towards camp. “StarClan help us” Firestar whispered, Inside the apprentice den, a smoky gray apprentice stirred. As she opened her big blue eyes she saw the double of herself, only bigger. “Hush.” Was all that her double said, and walked away. Slowly the wispy she-cat became solid, and she walked towards the staring cats. “Why, Cinderpelt, Why have you done this? You know you cannot survive here. You can’t return to StarClan now.” Firestar whispered, tears running down his cheeks. His apprentice, well, Yellowfang’s old apprentice, still limped with her old injury, even StarClan could not heal, Making Firestar feel so guilty all over again. Cinderpelt shook her head. “I’ve come home, where I belong. I can stay alive; it is willpower that will keep me going on. I am the fallen warrior, but I have come back from the dead. I will not let my days be numbered anymore."

(Paint Shop Pro 8. Graphic Program) Chapter 4
Silverpelt shone dimly that night. A Meteor storm was raining down, the cats watching with awe. The Medicine cats were not happy “StarClan is crying” was all they said if anyone asked. Duskpaw had slept on the island that night, another Gathering had been agreed for the next night while the moon was still full and the truce still lasted. The clan news would be exchanged as it should have done this night, and Duskpaw’s decision would be final.
The shining meteors fell also by the Moonpool, Where StarClan held a silent vigil for there lost warrior. “Yellowfang,” Bluestar tenderly asked the old medicine cat, trying not to upset her anymore than she already was. “Do you think Cinderpelt is the fallen warrior of which the Prophecy speaks?” “There is no other warrior who will fall while the Prophecy hangs. Cinderpelt is the fallen warrior. She is foolish, And I cannot understand, did I teach her wrong? Did I fail ThunderClan, StarClan and Cinderpelt? Am I that bad?” “No Yellowfang, Oh no, you have served your clan till the day you came to us, and you have served StarClan with every scrap of your being. Cinderpelt was never happy here, you know that as well as I. You remember when she joined us, she cried out, saying she had to get back to Leafpool and help her heal the clan, she had to help Sorreltail and she had to help her clan. She devoted every second of her life to her Clan, before and after her accident. She needed to go back, or she would go crazy. She doesn’t belong here, she has to live with her clan, live among the trees, fight for her prey, defend and help her clan, and she will give up herself time after time for her clan. And for that reason I am going to bless her with nine lives, like a leader. Cinderpelt is the greatest Medicine cat ever to grace the lake, she is the greatest of her generation, and only the Medicine cats of old could compare to her. She has seen it all, and she will see it all over again. That is why we are celebrating every moment of her old life, her life here and her new life.” Bluestar meowed loudly StarClan was speechless at her words. They yowled out into the night, and the meteors fell, as they cried, cried happy and sad tears for their lost warrior.
A lone cat padded out to a small hill that overhung the lake. She sat and looked to the stars from which she had come. The wind ruffled her smoky gray pelt, and she sung to the stars. “Who doesn’t want someone to hold, who knows how to love you without being told. Somebody tell me why I’m on my own, if there is a soulmate for everyone.”
Slightly further along the shore, sat another cat. She also wept to the stars, her tears staining her tabby pelt. “I'm here to remind you of the mess you left when you went away, its not fair deny me of the cross I bear that you gave to me, You oughta, you oughta, you oughta know.
The tabby slowly padded up to the smoky gray she-cat, and buried her face in the smoky pelt. “Cinderpelt, you came back to me” The tabby cried. “I did Leafpool, because I did not belong up there, and because I wanted answers. I want to love someone, or know that someone loves me. While I was a Medicine cat I always pushed away my sadness at seeing mates and kits, I still am a Medicine cat, and I'm bound by those laws. But nobody even showed the slightest interest in me, Like Crowfeather loved you, like I saw toms wistfully looking at Mothwing when I was in StarClan. I wanted someone to love me, and nobody did, nobody ever has.” Cinderpelt screamed, to herself, to Leafpool and to the stars. Leafpool looked up at her past mentor. “Cinderpelt, somebody must love you, somebody must have at some point. No cat lives without love forever. Crowfeather lost Feathertail, and he found himself falling in love with me, but now he has a mate and kits. Does he not think of Feathertail? Does he not care about her anymore? When I and Crowfeather were together Feathertail told me in a dream it was okay, I made Crowfeather happy and that made her happy, but its different now, he has a kit. He has forgotten her, he is forgetting me. He tries to pretend we never existed, but we do.” Leafpool wept.
“I will tell you Leafpool that when I was in StarClan, Feathertail told me she was unhappy, Feathertail said she had tried to talk to Crowfeather in a dream, and he had purposely woken from the dream before she even spoke. When I told her I was going to leave, she told me to tell Crowfeather everything that she thinks of him, and I will tell him, if it’s the last thing I do.” Cinderpelt spat, angry at Crowfeather “What did she ask you to say Cinderpelt?” Leafpool asked, with the same bitterness at the thought of Crowfeather “She said “Tell him that I loved him, and I was happy that Leafpool made him happy, but he forgot me, he ignored me and blocked me out. Tell Him that I can never forgive him, not after he has abused my memory. He has moved on, and for that I am not angry, but I saved his life and I loved him and made him feel accepted, and he repays me like this? Tell him that if he ever wants to talk to me, I will be at the Moonpool every quarter moon. I don’t want him to love me again, but I don’t want him to forget me, ever.” That is what she said Leafpool that is what Feathertail said” Cinderpelt Mewed. Leafpool nodded, feeling sadness for Feathertail. *~*~*~*~*~*~* The sun arose, but the early Newleaf sun provided very little warmth of light. Leafpool awoke and stretched. She padded outside and yawned, noticing she was the only one awake, and the sun was still very low, hardly visible. Suddenly a wispy she-cat padded through the dawn light, and placed a bundle at Leafpool’s paws. Leafpool gasped when she saw it was a little tiny She-Kit. Leafpool looked up at the cat. “Feathertail.” Leafpool murmured. Feathertail looked at Leafpool sadly. “When I joined StarClan, I was with kit, Crowfeather’s kit. I gave birth to her as I entered StarClan, and so she came with me, as Bluestar took pity on the kit. But she is still tiny and she will never grow or have a life here In StarClan, and Bluestar says I can bring her back here. I would not trust my kit with Crowfeather, and my brother and father are here in ThunderClan. I know no other cat that I would trust with my kit, I knew your sister and I knew Brambleclaw. ThunderClan is the place for my kit, and you are the worthiest mother. You break no Medicine cat laws, as she is my kit, not yours, but you will be her mother. Look after her Leafpool. I will tell you when you can tell her the truth of her mother.” Leafpool nodded. “I am honored, Feathertail. Your kit will be safe within the paws of ThunderClan. I will tell Stormfur and Greystripe that you are the mother.” With that, Feathertail bowed and talked away, melting into the dawn. Leafpool looked at the kit at her paws. Her fur was the silvery blue of her mother, and of her Grandmother, Bluestar. She had a silver streak of fur that ran down her spine, which fluffed out as it reached the base of her tail. It looked like a feather. “You will be Featherkit, in honor of your mother, and because of your markings” She picked up the kit and walked inside her den. She made her nest bigger and found some borage leaves. She knew these helped nursing mothers make milk, she wasn’t nursing but she had to make milk. As she chewed them, she thought about how to tell the clan. She finished the leaves, and checked Featherkit who was still asleep. She padded out of her den and went to tell her father, who had to know the truth.
The dawn had risen higher when she came out of her den, the night patrol had come back and the dawn patrol was getting ready to leave. She greeted her fellow clan mates and hurried to her fathers den. Firestar was eating a mouse when she entered. “I must speak to you father.” Leafpool licked him in greeting. Firestar finished his mouth. “I'm all ears Leafpool.” He smiled, batting her ear. “Feathertail came to me this morning, she had a kit. She gave birth to her kit as she entered StarClan, so her kit came with her, She is Crowfeather’s kit. Bluestar allowed her to bring her kit here, as her kit will never grow or have a life in StarClan. She said I was to be the new mother, and I could tell you, Greystripe and Stormfur the truth, but the rest of the clan should believe that Featherkit is mine.” Leafpool took a deep breath, waiting for her fathers reply.
“Leafpool, Featherkit is yours to the clan. We have been blessed with a kit, and Stormfur and Greystripe will be thrilled to know Feathertail had a daughter. We cannot turn away a kit the mother has trusted with us, and we will not.” Firestar smiled. “Thank you Firestar, you can Tell Sandstorm, because she should know, but no-one else.” Leafpool darted out of the den and went back to the kit.
Firestar came out of his den and leapt onto the Highrock. “All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a Clan Meeting!” he yowled the familiar words and the clan gathered around the Highrock. “I bring news of great joy. A new kit has been born to ThunderClan! Her mother is Leafpool.” Shocked and angry mews tore through the cats below. A medicine cat who was a mother? “Leafpool will not be punished, for this once. We cannot turn down a kit. She will move into the nursery over the next few days. Cinderpelt will take over Medicine cat duties while Leafpool nurses Featherkit.” He turned to look at Leafpool, who was climbing to the Highrock with a kit in her mouth. Leafpool held up the kit to the clan, who now cheered. Leafpool leapt down and padded back into her den with the kit. She ate more Borage Leaves, before settling down with the kit and falling asleep.

Darkness curled around the dying sun, fading it to nothing but a faint glow upon the horizon. A full moon shone once again in the sky, reflecting in the lake, turning it silver. A silent procession of cats steadily flowed over the log to the island, where a ginger-gold she-cat sat. The clan leaders resumed their place among the trunk, and news was shared. Duskpaw raised her head. "You know my answer. I go with ThunderClan." She said. As the cats departed, a cold wind blew.
Cinderpelt bit into a mouse, its fresh blood seeping out slowly. But in a instant, the blood crackled, and turned to cold, pale blue ice. Stepping back, she ran to Firestar. "I have had a sign! I bit into a mouse, and the blood that seeped out turned to ice! Blue, freezing ice." Cinderpelt mewed. "Me, You, Leafpool and Duskpaw will go to the Moonpool. We need guidance." Firestar spoke briskly, heading out of camp, the three cats following. They reached the Moonpool just before Moonhigh, and as the moon swallowed the pool, the four cats drank, and waited to be sent sleep.
In the starry abyss of the night sky, two cats sat. One, tortoishell, the other, a dark reddy brown. The four mortals entered their world. "Greetings Firestar, Duskpaw, Leafpool, Cinderpelt." The tortoishell mewed. "Spottedleaf" Firestar murmured. "Who have you brought with you?" He asked, motioning to the reddy she-cat, who was small compared to Spottedleaf. "This is Scarletpaw. She is the oldest cat in StarClan, but only a apprentice! Its funny to think I have kits and apprentices older than me." She mewed humoursly, but suddenly her face turned serious. "The pawsteps of time have begun, and wind beyond the caves, far into the moorland. They twist their path past the Moonpool, into the land beyond.." (Sorry, I have to get off now)
