Author's Notes: I'm pretty sure this goes here. It is a re-write. Oh,and I tried to do my best with the past cats and everything. I'm sure not every thing's perfectly perfect, but I did do my best.
"Oakpaw, from this moment you will be known as Oakheart. StarClan honors your bravery and strength, and we welcome you as a full warrior of RiverClan," The ancient words rang in my head as they slipped from Riverstar's maw. He pushed it onto my red-hued head. I was so excited, the silver tom had to remind me to lick his shoulder! I quickly swiped my bright pink tongue across his brilliant fur before leaping to the ground.
"Oakheart, Oakheart!" My clan mates chanted my new name as they pushed toward me. I could see my brother out of the corner of my eye. He too had been made a warrior. But only a few cats had congratulated Loudbelly before turning to me. I watching him tramp toward the warriors den and I pushed away from the crowd. They got the message and swiftly returned to duties.
Only two steps. I had taken two steps before being stopped. I growled inwardly before swinging to wards the cat. To my surprise, a light-colored tom with a twisted jaw stood behind me.
"You're invited to the gathering," The deputy didn't seem to happy about the desicion. In fact, both me and Crookedjaw were surprised! Tonight was suppose to be my silent vigil. Seeing my look, Crookedjaw answered the question I couldn't ask.
"You can talk," He smiled a bit as I sighed with relief.
"Thanks, but isn't this against the Warrior Code?" I kept my voice down. StarClan was watching.... Crookedjaw's tail twitched a bit.
" Riverstar said that if he must go, then so will you," Sighing, he flicked his tail, telling me I was dismissed.
I dipped my head in respect and watched him. He was wonderful. Ever since I was a kit, I had wanted to be exactly like him.
Inside, I was exploding. A Gathering! And my first one as a warrior! Letting it soak in, I padded to wards the warriors den. How was I going to tell Loudbelly.....
The camp was full. Full to it's limits. That was only because Sunstar had yet to announce who was going to the gathering.
My sister and I were very excited. My whiskers quivered in anxiousness, and her tail twitched. We didn't even have a good reason.
Finally, Sunstar and Tawnyspots emerged from the lichen cover. With one last whisper to his deputy, the sun-kissed leader kept atop the HighRock.
"The cats going to the gathering will be me, Tawnyspots,. Spottedpaw, Bluefur, Frostfur, and Lionpaw," He bellowed out each name before bounding onto the ground and padding to wards the entrance.
I gave my sister a sympathetic look, then trotted after my leader.
Spottedpaw came to wards me and we stood side by side in the crowd. My pelt tingled, standing beside such a great Medicine Cat.
"So, how are you?" Spottedpaw spoke first. Her amber eyes were glued on me, and I fidgeted under her gaze.
"Good, how about you?" I managed to to luck up. Spottedpaw emitted a long, happy purr.
"Perfect. How can I not be with Featherwhisker as my mentor?" We both looked over to see the pale silver tom talking to Sunstar. His huge tail swung back and forth in a strange rhythm only heard by him. I chuckled just a bit at the sight. Who couldn't love him? I was about to reply when a yowl rose up from the front.
"ThunderClan, let's go!"
Four mighty oaks rose above me as I trotted down the sloping hill that lead to the hollow. The other clans scents mingled in the air; meaning RiverClan was last to show. When we entered, silence greeted us along with a few stares. A call flew up that we looked okay, and everyone looked away.
I broke away from my clan a few minutes later and found myself standing in a circle of warriors. We were all pretty young, so I seemed to fit in. The one who was talking was none other than Talltail, the WindClan deputy.
"Just the other day, we chased a fox out of our territory," They seemed in the middle of a conversation, so I kept quiet. Though, the fur on the back of my neck did rise at the mention of those dog-like beast. Next to speak, surprisingly, was an apprentice. He wasn't that small, close to warrior age.
"And right into ShadowClan!" The tom spat. His tabby coat was fluffed up a bit as if he was going to fight. I was bewildered. No one talked to the deputy like that! Talltail, however, stayed calm.
"Don't get snappy, Brokenpaw. You know WindClan didn't do that on purpose." His tail twitched irritably, but he said nothing else. Brokenpaw muttered something underneath his breath, though didn't reply. Silence covered the group until a blue-gray she-cat started back up the conversation.
"Where'd you chase it to?" Her eyes were filled with utter curiosity, and I couldn't help but snort. Instantly, everyone looked at me, except her. Without moving, she meowed.
"What is it?" Her voice was strangely clam and I had no problem answering her. Until the snowy white she-cat beside her gave a hiss. My courage vanished immediately but I managed to speak.
"Well,uh, ThunderClan wouldn't have to worry," I would have explained, but I was already nervous enough.
"Actually, Oakheart," I looked up in shock at the sound of another RiverClanner. Sitting across from me was Eaglewing. His hazel orbs were glued on me. The golden warrior had been my mentor.
"ThunderClan would be the most at risk-" He was soon cut off by an ebony tom that sat next to him.
"Elaborate." His eyes shone with wisdom, though he didn't look much older than Eaglewing.
"I was about to, Ashfur!" My old mentor snapped at the ShadowClanner, his fur fluffed up just a bit.
"Now, if Talltail chased it to wards the gorse, then it's dead. If he chased it to wards ShadowClan, then it might be roadkill. But if he chased it to wards ThunderClan than there is nothing to stop it," Concluded Eaglewing, purring a bit as praise for his long explination.
The cat who had started this argument nodded and opened her mouth. But if she had wished to speak, that wish had been wasted. For a yowl had sounded at the front. We all turned to the source; a gray tabby perched a top a huge boulder. Three other cats sat around him, all looking out over their clans.
The tom who had started the gathering stepped forward.
"WindClan doesn't have much to say, except that we ran a fox over the gorse," Eaglewing gave a nod and a purr as the leader recited one of his options.
"Besides that, we're doing fine and have plenty of prey," Gorsestar casted a glance at Raggedstar before backing up. Dipping his head another gray tom stepped up. This one, however, had long, soft fur and dull green eyes.
"RiverClan has two new warriors, Loudbelly and Oakheart, who is here tonight." I purred loudly as every cat in the hollow turned to stare at me. I felt the burn of the blue she-cats gaze, and my pelt prickled.
Through out the rest of the uneventful gathering, me and the blue cat(who I learned was Bluefur) sneaked peeks of each other. Every time we our gazes would cross, she would snap her head back up to the GreatRock. By the time it was over, her neck was probably sorer than ever.
Getting to my paws,I passed by Bluefur on the way out. Our eyes locked, and for a heartbeat we stayed that way. Then she broke our connection by whispering the words
"See you soon." My whole body shivered at her words. How soon was soon?
