Author's Notes: This story is a prelude to a series i am making soon. This book takes place about 250 moons before Bluestar is born.
Black, thought Burningkit, who had just started to figure out cat talk. So this is what i am seeing. She had known the black before, she just now knew its name. But she recalled seeing light before, in some distant memory.
Then, she opened her eyes for the first time and was amazed. She saw pure sunlight. And in that moment she remembered. Long ago, asleep at night, she had seen shining cats smiling at her. And these cats around her now weren't shiny and sparkly, but they seemed nice too!
Then she looked out the nursery entrance, and saw a cat outside looking at her, looking into her eyes. The cat had a shining golden pelt, and as the sun shone on it, it dazzled her...
What is this I see in this cat, wondered Goldenster, Thunderclan's leader. She has nearly died from whitecough, and her eyes opened almost a moon late... Then she saw something. This cat has the light of fire in her eyes! Then she knew. This cat, her daughter's daughter, Her only kin still alive, was destined to have a great future. She looked up, and saw a star gleaming brighter than the sun; it began to come closer... "Silvertail?
"Yes, it is me, your brother, your seventh life giver. Because the life you are currently living is the one that I gave you, I can communicate with you easier. Here is what I must say.
Burningkit is to be a bright star, lighting the night. But, it cannot last forever... Sky must eventually help Star of Fire, and carry its final tasks. However, for many moons, even seasons, to come, this kit will be a great savior to all the clans.
Light and Star will save the forest.
Flashkit raced out of the nursery, into a pile of leaves. They flew into the air. He caught three of them.
"Nice job, Flashkit!" said Burningkit, his sister.
One moon had passed since her eyes had opened, and she had learned to talk.
"Thanks, Burningkit!"
"I'll try now!"
Burningkit leaped into the leaves, but only some flew up in the air, and she only managed to catch one.
"Good job!" her encouraging brother meowed.

Their relationship was amazing. Flashkit supported Burningkit and helped her learn (since her eyes opened late), and she loved him in return. He taught her everything he knew and more, and it was because of this relationship that Burningkit learned most of her basic skills that kits learn that let them be apprentices. To let them be warriors.
Burningkit was to be a warrior.
Yellowpaw and Silverpaw played by the tree near the nursery. They had been playing there, next to the kits, for a week now. The had a huge loose sheet of bark that they would pull back and stick leaves under, sticking halfway out. Then, they would try to pull the leaf out without ripping it. So far no one had succeded.
Burningkit ran by and jumped, and grabbed it with her paws. It ripped in half.
"Nice try, Burningkit!" Flashkit mewed.
"Oh, well, I guess it wasn't the worst try." said Burningkit, still unhappy she had failed.
"When I'm an apprentice, I'll do it!" Said Flashkit, who, although was too small to reach the leaf, was very determined.
"Good luck!"
"When I learn, if I learn how to first, I will show you how!"
Greenpaw, the medicine cat apprentice padded into the clearing.
"I bet I could get that leaf," he said.
Everyone cried "No way", It's "impossible", ect.
"Look."
Greenpaw took some smashed herbs from his paws, and rubbed the area around the leaf and the leaf with it. He pulled the leaf out, untorn, and gave it to Burningkit. Then. he padded off without a word.
Burningkit watched him go with love in her eyes.
Burningkit woke up, being carried by a cat with unfamiliar scent.
"Quick, Iceheart!" Mewed the tabby holding Burningkit.
Burningkit looked around. She saw Flashkit, Whitekit, and Orangekit being carried, too.
The black cat carrying Orangekit dropped him for a moment. Orangekit didn't miss a chance. He clawed the black tom, and the one holding Whitekit. They raced home, the Shadowclan cats hard on their heels.

"We will soon be at the camp. Don't try anything you'll regret."
They entered the marshy clearing of the Shadowclan camp.
"Welcome to Shadowclan, kits," mewed Darkstar.
Burningkit yawned. She had been in the prison nursery for a few days, and so far no help had come. Orangekit and Whitekit had been caught and captured. Things seemed completely hopeless. However, during her stay in Shadowclan, she learned a few things...
Shadowclan was a mess. They had a cruel leader, Darkstar, and he had been killing and kitnapping since he became leader.
However, a small group of cats planned to rebel. They were led by Darkhope, one of the senior warriors.
The fate of Shadowclan rests upon his paws.
Quickit woke to see Flashpelt and goldpelt in complete panic. They, after all, had woken to find a hole in the nursery wall and their kits missing. No one could blame them for waking up the kit.
** ** ** ** ** **
"There's no sign of them," Goldstar mewed, "but that's no reason to give up hope. We just found a Shadowclan Scent trail- one that is 3 days old, from the time of the kitnapping. We also found kitscent."
"Well then what are you waiting for?!?!?" Goldpelt mewed angrily.
"I understand your panic. But, if the kits are in the Shadowclan camp, they will be in no immediate danger, at least for today. Coming in tired and worn out and just being driven out would not help."
Goldpelt grudgingly aggreed, then walked away.
Burningkit backed into a corner as a dark brown warrior approached her.
"Don't fear, I by no means want to hurt you."
"I don't beleive you!"
"A few cats report to me that you have been eavesdropping on us behind the prison nursery, so you should know who I am."
Burningkit looked up at him with eyes as big as full moons.
"I am Darkhope. I am here to save you.
Goldpelt raced up to Goldenstar in a rage.
"I thought you were going to send out a rescue patrol!"
"Not yet. I need-"
"You need WHAT? You need nothing! My kits are in there!"
"No. When I send a patrol, it will not fail. The warriors need rest."
"But-"
"No. Not yet."
"Darkhope, what are you doing?"
"Er, interrogating this kit. I think she has been spying on our warriors."
"Oh, is she? Then why did you not tell me?"
"I only just found out!"
"Fine. I shall move her, along with the other kits to a more secure location.?"
"Where?"
"The warrior's den," Blackfire responded with a [(evil)] grin.
Darkhope left the nursery.
