~INTRODUCTION~
Underground...welcome home. This is an early warning: if you are grossed out easily or are afraid of sewage, you might not want to read any further. If you enjoy adventure, fantasy, grossness, and drama...you are in the right place so read on!!! This is a story based off the sewage system in New York City. The cat's that live there have called this there home for centuries...never knowing about what lies above ground. Now when a cat that has come from the 'other world' and joins an abode (clan) he tells his story, and what lies above these cement walls. Now the sewer cats want to break free and live above in the 'real 'world'. Join these cats on their quest for freedom and come with us...underground.
~HISTORY~
The cats that live in the sewers have lived their for generations. They are very different from the cats that live in the above-ground world. The apprentices have a two-part name, but they chose one part of their name to keep when they become warriors. The sewage cats also live in abodes like a family. They hunt mice, lizards, and rats and there is a constant battle over food and water. They know nothing about the world outside the sewers, and have only heard stories of cats that came from 'another world'. All the cats meet in the 'center chamber' every moon to talk about what has been happening in their abode, and what they are planning for the future. Since these cats can't see the moon, they use the height of the river to tell when it is time for a gathering. When the water is high, it is a full moon. When the water is low, it is a half-moon. Medicine cats communicate at a shrine in the middle of the territories when the water is low. They have a right of passage safely through the territories, and follow the same rules as warriors. They may also have kits if they wish.
~TERRITORY~
The Brown-water abode lives on the south side of the sewers. The feed on mice, rats, and lizards. The name comes from the type of water that moves through the tunnels there; brown and slow-moving. Because of this unclean water, the cats drink from a pool made out of cement that collects rain-water. There camp is also made out of cement.
The Black-water abode lives on the eastern side of the sewage grid. Like the Brown-water abode, the Black-water abode is named after the black, swift-moving water that flows there. The cats there are known to be good swimmers and have a keen sense of sight. The kits must always stay in the camp because of the dangerous water, and apprentices must always have a mentor with them when they are traveling outside of camp, near the water's edge.
The Green-water abode lives on the northern side of the grid and is also named after the water that is there; green, dirty, and foul-smelling. Because of this, they also have a pool that collects rain-water and is safe for drinking. They hunt mice and rats and are skilled in smelling, due to the scent that is a constant on their territory.
The Clear-water abode lives on the western side of the system and has clear, fresh water. They take pride in the ability to drink from their water and must always fight to keep it that way. They are known to be great fighters and are always snobby about having the freshest water.

~PROLOUGE~
Tar was padding along the alley way on 10th street, his eyes flashing to each side of the road as he made sure no cat was lurking near-by. The dumpsters that sat like green giants on the gloomy side os the alley his no cats as far as he could see and he let his gaze drop back down ti his jet-black paws.
He had been only a small kitten when he was taken from his home in a cozy apartment and sold to a wealthy family with many cats. They discarded him once he was past his kit-hood and he was left out on the streets to die. Luckily, a cat named Flash took care of him and raised him to be a capable young cat. Now he was fully grown and was preparing to leave Flash's safety and care to find his own home and maybe even start a family. He might even join one of the clans that prowled around, and mostly controlled the streets along this side of the city. Hey it might be nice to have that kind of tight-knit community to protect and take care of him.
Now Tar grinned as his stride brought him to the end of the alley. He stopped, glanced both ways, then crossed the not-so-busy intersection of 10th street and K. He was now at the more deserted part of town and he let his gaze fall on the park that lay before him. Striding into the grassy area, he picked a nice bench and hopped up to have a look around. All seemed to look fine around there; no dogs, no humans, no kids. He relaxed a little before hopping back down and setting off to find a place to sleep for the night. It was too far for him to try and walk all the way back to Flash's home. He would understand well. That was just the kind of cat Flash was.
Tar finished a round trip through the park and decided the tall oak with a gaping hole in its trunk would provide a snug nest for the night; provided he could chase all the squirrels that might be nesting in there out.
Scaling the oak, Tar stuck his head into the hole and looked down. Three large pairs of eyes stared back at him and he blinked in curiousity. Pulling his head back out, he prepared for the attack. He stuck a paw in, and tried to reach around for one of the squirrels.
"Ouch!" Tar yowled, quickly pulling out his paw. There was a large bloody hole on his paw that had been hizeled there by one of the squirrel's large teeth.
Reaching back in, this time making sure he had unsheathed his claws, Tar swiped at one of the squirrels and smiled as it flew out of the hole and up the tree. Thw two other squirrels followed suit and Tar grinned at his cleverness.
Creeping into the hollow, he curled into a tight ball and fell quickly into a deep sleep.
"Hey punk, that's my nest your sleeping in!" A graveling voice snarled into Tar's dreams. Tar's eyes shot open and he saw a large grey tom cat staring at him from the top of the hole.
"Really, because i don't see your name on it." Tar retorted, glaring at the other tom.
The cat growled and hissed angrily. "I'm giving you to the count of three to get out of there before i turn you into doggy chow." The cat shrieked with anger.
"No." Tar smiled at the pure hatrid that resonated off this cat. He loved to be annoying.
The other cat, seething with fury, drove his claw into the hollow and yanked Tar out of it. Tar yelped in pain as the flesh tore away from the bone and he dropped like a rock onto the ground below. He heard the faint laughter of another cat above him and he groaned loudly. Rolling onto his belly, he stood up and padded in a wobbily circle as he tried to find his feet.
Embarressed and maddened by his defeat, Tar began to make his way out of the park, grumbleing about his fight all the while. He set out onto the street and was about to head across when a car came zooming by. Tar leaped back in fear and yowled as he landed on his wounded leg.
After a few seconds, Tar stood up and padded wearily to the edge of te street. Looking both ways first, he started across. No that it was the middle of the night, it was especially hard to see where he was going. Tar stumbled in the night as he made his way across the street. He was about half-way when his front paws crossed and he tripped and fell flat on his face. He let out a snarl of pain and pulled himself to his feet again. He limped forward a few more steps then bang...he was falling down a black hole into nothingness. Trying to grasp what just happened, Tar opened his eyes wide in shock. He was falling down into the sewers! Glancing down, he saw the ground racing toward him at a dizzying speed. There was a loud and painful bang, and then nothing. His head felt heavy and he spun out of control, his mind shutting down as he crashed. His very last though rang though his head...he was in the sewers.
