Prolouge
A tree quivered in the wind, the last of the dry, brown leaves whisked away. The sky was a dull, pearly gray, and the tops of the Mountains were hidden by clouds. No birds chirped, only the shrill shreak of a Crow split the silence. A fern rustled, and that was all.
"Do you think it's here?" A small white she-cat with timid amber eyes whispered, digging her claws into the undergrowth.
A pale gray tom opened his mouth to speak, but closed it, shaking his head.
The she-cat whimpered. "We can't stay here!" She blurted, her eyes wide with fear and pain. "We can't.." She was balanced on three legs, the fourth hanging at an awkward angle, the fur matted and bloody.
The tom bared his teeth. "I'm not going to deny you, Winter."
Winter buried her head in the tom's shoulder. "Oh.. Oh, Sp-"
She was cut off with a deafening battle cry. A pounding of paws rang in the two cat's ears, and Winter hobbled forward. The tom clenched his teeth and darted, leaping over a fallen log, the world around him a blur.
Winter scrabbled forward, tears forming in her eyes. She moaned, collapsing. She twitched when she saw the smudges of what could be cats.
"Traitors.." A gold furred she-cat hissed, unsheathing her claws and turning her head toward the sky and yowled.
The gold furred she-cat's eyes suddenly flashed into pure white, and she started to chant slurred words that meant nothing to the white she-cat's ears.
"Tonight," She hissed, "blood shall stain." She flicked her tail and two large cats, who's eyes were also pure white, pinned Winter down. The gold furred cat started chanting again, and the two cats dragged Winter over to a rock, placing her on top of it.
"No.. please.." Winter rasped. "You have it all wrong! We did not do it! We did not d-"
Winter suddnely became still. The gold cat was bent over her, fastening her teeth into the white cat's throat. Winter's eyes became glazed, and the last breath escaped her body.

Chapter One
The wind wisped the leaves up, tossing them into the air and fluttering them over a ways before placing them back down. The leaves crunched under small, ginger paws. A Chickadee taunted the cat from a high branch, chirping and pruning their feathers.
The cat stopped, looking hungrily at the bird. She unsheathed her claws, bunched her muscles, and prepared to leap..
"Leafstar! Leafstar!"
Leafstar cursed as the Chickadee darted off in surprise, and the ginger she-cat turned, groaning when she saw Hawkgaze. The tom hadn't left her alone ever since she was given her Warrior name, Leafpelt.
Hawkgaze panted, slowing to a trot and smiling at her. "Hi, Leafstar. Er, I was wondering, do you.." He closed his eyes and finished quickly, "do you want to go hunting with me?"
Leafstar felt like spitting, "No thanks you good for nothing, senseless, annoying Mousebrain!" She stared at her paws, her teeth clenched. "Isn't that what I'm doing?"
"O-Oh.. Well, I mean.."
Leafstar sighed and rolled her eyes, turning away from Hawkgaze. Looking over her shoulder, she mewed, "But no." She shook her head. "No I don't."
Looking crushed, Hawkgaze stared after her as she walked away, tail in the air. The tom pinned back his ears before following behind her silently.
"Oh, Leafstar," Hawkgaze meowed, "don't get hurt. I'd hate to see y-"
"Okay, I get it," Leafstar hissed. "I have a fan club. Now stop stalking me!"
***
Leafstar padded into camp, a scrawny mouse hanging limply in her jaws. Russelkit and Rowankit, daughters of Heathertail, growling and tumbling into each other. Leafstar felt a pang of worry when she saw their bones jutting out of them.
Every Leaf-bare was like this. Why should she worry now? Shrugging, Leafstar dropped her mouse into the Fresh-kill pile and gave a luxurious stretch and retiring into her den. She yawned and curled in her nest, closing her eyes and drifting off into an uneasy, restless sleep of taunting whispers and glowing, white eyes..

Chapter Two "Hailpaw.."Hailpaw squinted, eyeing the blurred shape of Fawnpaw. "It's not even Sunrise.."The brown she-cat she-cat laughed. "To you," She mewed, "but it's actually Sunhigh.""Sunhigh?" Hailpaw scrambled up. "Why didn't you wake me sooner?"Fawnpaw shook her head. "No need."Hailpaw stretched. "I bet you a mouse that Leafstar is going to burst."The apprentice purred. "Don't worry, she's already.""Great." Hailpaw crept slowly out of the Apprentice's den, almost blinded by the Autumn sunlight. When she saw Leafstar talking to Silverspirit, she made a dash to the Camp enterance. "Hailpaw!" Hailpaw turned around slowly at the sound of her leader's voice. Here we go, She thought, I'm dead.. "Yes?"Leafstar looked down at her sternly. "You were supposed to go on the Dawn Patrol today," She hissed, "but they told me you never went."Hailpaw stared at her silver paws. "I forgot.""Clearly you forgot what duties are, Hailpaw. You will spend the whole day"Caring for the Elder's."confined to camp."Hailpaw nodded, anger swelling up inside her. "But that means I can't do my Apprentice Duties. Isn't that better then laying it off even more?"Leafstar sniffed. "My point," she hissed, "the more you lay off your duties the longer it'll take to become a warrior." With that, the ginger she-cat turned and padded away, not looking back once. .:~ .:~ .:~ .:~ "What an old badger," Hailpaw mewed to Rabbitpaw, who was curling in his nest. "I miss a dumb patrol and then I have to wait longer to become a Warrior."Rabbitpaw shrugged. "It is mostly your fault."Hailpaw hissed. "My fault?" The she-cat snapped, "it's somehow my fault they never woke me up?"Rabbitpaw flicked his ears. "Whatever. You'll be training again tomorrow. And besides, if you don't get any sleep, you might just miss training again."The silver-pawed apprentice sighed before laying her chin on her paws, closing her eyes.
