Authors note: This is my first Fanfic, so sorry if I messed anything up, I don't really know how to do this. I hope you all like it, I just always wondered how Nightcloud felt about all of this. Was she living in blind hope, or was she doing a friend a favor? Again sorry if I messed anything up.
Nightcloud sat outside the camp, near the entrance. Crowfeather had left camp again tonight. He had gone missing so
many times in the past moon, but no one but Nightcloud had noticed, no one else cared. Her amber gaze swept the
moor, she could see the grass waving in the breeze, the lakes shining surface rippling, but no Crowfeather.
"Oh Crowfeather..." Nightcloud whispered to the wind her voice so small and quiet. If there was any cat in WindClan
that she loved it was him, and it killed her knowing he loved someone else. It had been two sunrises since the
tom had run away with the ThunderClan medicine cat Leafpool. When badgers attacked ThunderClan, Crowfeather
and Leafpool had chosen to go their separate ways, but Nightcloud new Crowfeather still loved the she-cat,
he would never love any one else.
She shut her eyes, half hoping Crowfeather had gone to join ThunderClan, then she wouldn't have too see him
everyday, but as she opened her eyes, she knew it wouldn't be so, she knew him so well, better than his own mother.
The black she-cat remembered the days when they were apprentices, when Crowfeather share secrets with Nightcloud
by the gorge that had ran along WindClans border back in the old forest. He had trusted her more than any cat,
chosen to hunt and sleep beside her over all others. But it wasn't like that anymore, the grey black tom had become
distant and listless, swept up in heartbreak and misery, it was so unlike the usually passionate, proud cat he had
once been.
The breeze picked up and caressed Nightclouds dark fur. She shut her eyes for a moment, enjoying the wind. When
she opened her eyes they were glassy, and glistened with tears. She looked up into the stars, her heart aching. She
wanted to scream into the sky, let out all her pain and anger and jealousy, she wanted to be free of it, she didn't
want to love anymore, ever again. A shining tear trickled down her face, what was so great about Leafpool, why did
Crowfeather love that stupid ThunderClan cat and not her?
Then, a small dark blur in the waving grass heading towards the WindClan camp, Crowfeather, dashing t owards her. He
had an odd look on his face, nervous and sorrowful at the same time, had he gone to see Leafpool again? He didn't
seem to notice Nightcloud as he first approached, that didn't surprise her, she was shadowed by the gorse bushes.
His bright blue gaze looked up at her as he came closer, but he walked straight past her, "Crowfeather?" Nightcloud
asked, her voice trembling with hurt.
He stopped and looked her way, not saying anything, "Please, don't forget your friends in WindClan." Nightcloud
mewed.
Crowfeather stared at her bitterly, "I have to more friends in WindClan," his voice was emotionless, like wave that
had crashed against the shore too many times. Nightcloud felt her heart breaking once more, but she got up and
padded up to him, brushing her muzzle against his cheek, "you have me Crowfeather, you always have."
He stiffened at her touch, and Nightcloud sighed, turning to go back into the camp, "wait Nightcloud," Crowfeather
called the black she-cat back.
She turned around, "yes?"
"I-I know I really shouldn't ask you this, but I want the Clan to trust me again, would-would you consider becoming
my mate?"
A jolt shot through Nightcloud, threating to send her swooning to the ground. First she felt joy like she hadn't
ever felt before, this is what she had wanted for so long, the words she had waited a lifetime to hear, but then
the truth came crashing down on her like a rock slide. He didn't love her, he loved Leafpool, he needed her to
earn his Clanmates respect, he was asking to USE her. She opened her mouth to give a angry pain ridden no, but
she couldn't bring herself to say it, couldn't bring herself to let him go, forever. "Only for you Crowfeather, you
are the only cat I would do something like this for."
"Thank you," Crowfeather whispered, brushing his tail along her flank, "its not fair of me to ask you."
'No it isn't' Nightcloud thought bitterly, but she meowed instead, "lets go get some sleep."
Crowfeather nodded, and padded down the heather tunnel, his pelt touching Nightclouds, burning her fur like fire.
She looked at her paws. She was agreeing to be apart of something fake, not real, non existent. She felt her heart
bursting inside her chest once again, she felt like she was dying, a slow agonizing death. Then hope glisten in her
amber eyes. Maybe within time, just possibly, he would forget Leafpool, leave those memories behind and look at
Nightcloud with love, real love.
She lay down on the sandy ground, Crowfeather pressed against her side. She saw Webfoot open one eye and glare at
Crowfeather with hatred and mistrust. Nightcloud caught his eye, and glared back at his with such ferocity, the
older toms angry look changed to one of surprise. Satisfactorily, Nightcloud turned her head away, and shut her
eyes, letting sleep carry her away, clinging to dreams of real love.
