Firestar slashed his thorn-sharp claws at a silver tom, and split his nose. Blood spurt out and slicked Firestar’s chest, his ginger fur stained red.
“Why, you pathetic” – The silver tabby was cut short as Graystripe hurdled into him, wrestling with another ginger tom, a pale one with brown and white splotches.
This is uncontrollable! Firestar leaped out of the way as an enemy cat, her flank ripped open and blood pouring onto the ground, causing her to slip, staggered by. Her eyes were wide with panic and Firestar let her go. Fighting a wounded cat was no way to fight, and held no nobility.
Firestar was about to find Graystripe again when a cry split the air. He swiveled his ears and then saw a gray tomcat’s mouth bubble up with blood. Another cry that sounded gurgled came from him, and Firestar gaped in terror as a horrible wound appeared to him on the tom’s throat area. Blood was streaming down from it and another choking cry split the air.
“Great StarClan!” Firestar murmured and was about to run to the cat to help, his heart told him to whether this cat was enemy or friend. He could tell this cat was young, and it was depressing to watch it in battle.
Firestar suddenly felt scorching pain shoot through him as a cat pounced onto his back. Blood pulsed through his veins as he whipped around, scattering tiny droplets of blood onto the ground from the scratches and cuts he so far endured.
“Try to struggle away!” The cat, still hooked on his back, snarled. Blood sputtered from it’s mouth as it spoke, and foam flecked around its muzzle indicated that it was on the verge of cracking.
“Off me!” Firestar yowled in a threatening tone and reared up on his back legs. The tom stubbornly hung on. Firestar felt the tom sink his claws in deeper into his flesh and, as he turned his head around, saw his flame-colored fur stained red.
The tom sputtered out blood from its mouth as it tried to hold on and hiss a threat, but Firestar sensed he was weakening. Not even StarClan could heal his wounds. Firestar thought and writhed on the ground.
The tom lost grip and pelted away into the mass of fighting cats. Firestar didn’t watch him go, but looked around. Where was that dying gray cat? He couldn’t find him, nor could hear his sickening cries of help. Firestar felt his stomach lurch as he saw a bundle of gray fur, unmoving, on the ground.
Firestar leaped over a tussle between Brackenfur and a white she-cat with a blood stained flank and came up to the dying gray cat. He prodded his shoulder; the cat didn’t stir.
Firestar swallowed as he saw the cat’s head turn over. His, the cat was a tom, eyes stared blankly, and Firestar could tell he was dead.Oh, how he was probably forced to fight! Anger flared inside his chest and burned in his heart. Scourge must be stopped!
