Wow I need to update.
CHAPTER 12
Rockstar jumped, his heart pounding. He had dreamed he was being chased by something. He looked around frantically until he realized that he was safe in the camp. He drew in a long breath, and let it out. Rockstar flopped back down on his side, miserable and exhausted.
"Well, look who's finally awake!"
Rockstar turned around to see Cherrytail looking at him through her friendly amber eyes. Rockstar's heart twisted in pain, but he hid it and just yawned. "It's been a rough night," he responded.
"You're telling me!" she mewed, twisting around to reveal her injured leg. Rockstar stifled a horrified gasp.Cherrytail's leg was twisted back at an awkward position. It looked as if her leg was a twig that had been snapped in half.
Cherrytail must have seen his reaction. "I know it looks bad," she meowed, twisting so that her leg was hidden again. "But soon it will be healed and I'll be as good as new." Rockstar tensed. Did the tourtiose-shell she-cat fully understand the damage done to her leg? Even if it did heal, it would take moons for it to be fully recovered. But Rockstar said nothing. he just murmured agreement quietly and changed the subject. "How are the kits?"
"The kits are fine," she mewed. "They came in here while you were sleeping. They seem as energetic as usual." Though Cherrytail's voice was amused, her eyes were dark with seriousness. She lowered her voice. "I can see the power within them. It shines weak now, but I know it will grow. We will have to watch them carefully." Rockstar nodded. "I know," he sighed. "Lets just hope they listen."
Cherrytail nodded, and moved to a more comfortable position. She clenched her teeth in pain and unsheathed her claws. Rockstar made a move to get up and help her, but she hissed, "Stay there. I can manage."
After a few tence heartbeats she gave up, and went back to her original position. She shook her head.
"Oh, Rockstar," she mewed, her amber eyes huge with dispair. "We have to face the truth. If I can't even move to a different position, there is no way i'll recover. I have tried holding on to a thin thread of hope, but there is no use. I will never be a warrior again."
Rockstar was too sick at heart to reply. Usually his mate would have at least hung onto hope, but it looks like now Cherrytail has given up completely.
"Cherrytail-" He started.
She silenced him with a hiss. "I don't want to talk Rockstar. I just need to be alone for awhile."
"But maybe we can fix this," he prompted.
She glared at him. "
Fix this? Ha! As if this can be
fixed. There is no way and you know it. You knew it before me. You knew, and you didn't even tell me."
"I'm sorry," Rockstar whispered. "I didn't want to upset you."
"You didn't want to upset me? Well, it's a little late for that, don't you think?" Cherrytail snarled.
"Cherrytail, why are you acting this way?" Rockstar questioned, concern filling his stomach like a rock.
"I'm
being this way because my life is ruined. There is nothing left having. I might as well die"
"You have the kits," Rockstar murmured. "And you have me. You may not be able to be a warrior, but maybe you can be something else."
"I don't want to be something else!" Charrytail snapped. "Do you know how hard I worked to become a warrior? Do you know how much I admired the warriors in my newly made clan even before I joined? I wanted to be like them, Rockstar. I wanted to be a hero, like Firestar and Sandstorm. But now that is lost. There is no way..." Cherrytail gasped, and shuffled her paws in front of her. her eyes burned with a madness Rockstar has never seen before. It frightened him more than any warrior he has fought with.
"Songbreeze!" Rockstar yowled. "Songbreeze, help!"
A heartbeat later the medicine cat burst through the enterance of the medicine den. His gaze flicked to Cherrytail and his eyes widened. Songbreeze grabbed some herbs from the nearby pile and started chewing them frantically.
Rockstar watched in horror as his mate continued to shuffle her paws madly and her breathing got faster and faster. Was this his fault?
Songbreeze quickly took the chewed herbs and shoved them in Cherrytail's mouth. She swallowed, and she stopped shuffling her paws. The mad look in her eyes faded, and then they closed. She collapsed on her nest and her breathing slowed until Rockstar could barely see her flank move.
Rockstar felt sick. But he managed to ask, "What happened?"
Songbreeze looked at him, his tail still fluffed out in shock. "I don't reall know. She just started going... mad."
Rockstar knew it all along, but he buried his face in his paws and started sobbing.
Songbreeze layed down next to him. "Maybe you should move back to your den," he mewed gently. "Your clan needs to see that you are still strong despite all that's happened recently.
Rockstar nodded weakly, and got up and started limping towards his den. Before he left he turned around and meowed, "Tell no one about this." Songbreeze nodded, and Rockstar vanished behind the wall of moss.
