CHAPTER 13
All was silent except for the faint sound of an eagle crying. No cat moved. Cats from every clan had their eyes were wide with shock. No cat ever dared to speak out at a Gathering like that.... have they?
After a few long, tense heartbeats, Firestar stood up. "It looks like trouble faces us all," he yowled. All eyes turned to him.
"WindClan has made it clear that they intend to drive out SkyClan. However, StarClan had decreed five clans, back then, and now. We must keep hold of their law. ThunderClan shall stand beside SkyClan in this battle if necessary."
"And so shall ShadowClan," Blackstar called out, standing up. "These cats have already tried to drive out ThunderClan. These disobediant cats need to be taught a lesson." Blackstar dipped his head to Rockstar and whispered, "I need to talk with you privately after the Gathering."
Rockstar swallowed his fear and stood up. A bolt of power seared through his paws and the wind blew through his fur.
"Cats of all clans," Rockstar meowed. "SkyClan thanks you for your support. In times of trouble, we must stick together. WindClan is not just a danger it SkyClan. If what Blackstar said is true, then it's not only SkyClan they have a problem with." The cats in the clearing muttered their agreement. Rockstar continued. "What the clans need is a sign from StarClan." He turned to the medicine cats, who were sitting together in a group. "Have you heard from them?" he asked. All but one shook their heads. However, a small tabby she-cat with a white chest and paws stood up. Her eyes glowed with the powers of her warrior ancestors.
"I have had a sign," she announced. "I'm not exactly sure what it means."
"Come up here Leafpool," Firestar invited, jumping down so she could sit there. Leafpool leaped up onto the tree branch and drew in a deep breath before speaking.
"I dreamed I was in the forest," she began. "I was alone. At first everything seemed fine, but then the sky darkened. The ground below me was replaced by a river of blood. Then a shape came up next to me and whispered, 'The eagle's cry will mark of the end of all. Only the children of a dying leader can save you.'"
At once cat broke into yowls of fear and horror. Panic raced through the clearing.
"Stop!" Firestar yowled. Al once the clearing froze and looked up at the ThunderClan leader. "We must face this threat like warriors. And there is hope. We all must wait for the eagle's cry and the children of the dying leader will came. They will save us."
Rockstar felt an icy lump in this belly. He already had a feeling he knew what this prophecy meant. Were the children of the dying leader his kits? But if this is true, does that mean Rockstar is dying?
"Every cat should return to their camps," Leopardstar informed. "But for ThunderClan and SkyClan, it may be different. How are they going to get home? They can't travel through WindClan territory."
"Then they must travel through ours," Blackstar mewed, standing up. "We cannot have WindClan think they have cats hostage here."
Leopardstar thought for a heartbeat, then nodded. "Very well," she mewed, turning to Firestar and Rockstar. "Your clans may travel through RiverClan and ShadowClan territory to get home, if you need to."
Firestar and Rockstar dipped their heads in acceptance. "Thank you, Leopardstar, Blackstar," Rockstar mewed. "SkyClan thanks you."
"And so does ThunderClan," Firestar added.
Blackstar nodded. "This Gathering is over. And let us pray for better times ahead," he added. Soon the cats were separating into clans. SkyClan and ThunderClan started getting in one group, and ShadowClan and RiverClan soon were gone.
ThunderClan and then SkyClan crossed over the tree bridge and started towards ShadowClan territory. There was no sound of cats talking. Just the sound of nervous shuffling paws was all that Rockstar heard.
"Wait!" A yowl broke the silence. Rockstar turned to see Blackstar running towards him. The ShadowClan leader stopped in front of him.
"I must talk to you," he whispered. "What I say may effect both of our clans forever."
