"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath the Tallstone for a Clan meeting." yowled Brokenstar. Yellowfang sulked out of her den with Runningpaw, her apprentice. The gray medicine cat noticed that some cats that could catch their own prey shouldn't, like the brothers Littlepaw and Whitepaw. They were but four moons old! Brokenstar made a mess of the Clan. Yellowfang missed the previous leader, Raggedstar, deeply. No cat knew that she and Raggedstar were mates, and together the parents of Brokenstar.
Suddenly, with a jolt of uneasiness, Yellowfang remembered that morning, when Brokenstar had savagely killed two kits. He's going to blame me! she thought. "As you all know, this morning two kits died." continued the brown tabby. "I have found out that they were murdered, and I know which cat did it. Your medicine cat, Yellowfang."
"What? Brokenstar, you know you killed them!" Yellowfang hissed, bristling. "I saw it all. The blood, their little screams-" Yellowfang shuddered at the disturbing memory.
"As leader of ShadowClan, I hereby exile you from it." meowed Brokenstar. "Do you have anything to say for yourself?"
"Go ahead. Exile me." she meowed. "Because ShadowClan has become nothing more than a group of starving cats who drive other Clans out of their own territory, led by a evil cat who kills kits who 'aren't strong enough to make it through' and forces kits to become apprentices at three moons and warriors at five! So long, ex-Clanmates. Because this Clan isn't worth a mouses' whisker to me." She stalked off, not looking back. She never did.
Yellowfang laid down in her makeshift nest- a ditch in the ground. Life as an exile wasn't easy. Even in greenleaf, the forest seemed empty, drained of prey.
A scent crossed her nose-a ThunderClan apprentice! She hid, and saw him through the bushes. A bright ginger cat. Yellowfang wanted to scare him out. Little did she know that this apprentice, called Firepaw, would bring her to a new life.
