Title: Temptations
Chapters: Oneshot
Author: Rockywave
Pairing: None
Rating: PG
Spoilers: The Sight and all previous.
Summary: Hollypaw is now a warrior, Hollystripe. Her strict following of the warrior code and two old enemies may tempt her into the path of blood.
Warning: Angst and slight violence and swearing.
Disclaimer: Jaypaw wouldn't be so grumpy if I owned Warriors. I mean, seriously, he has the only original name of Squirrelflights' litter (Hollykit was Fernclouds' kit, and you all remember Lionheart, I hope)!
Hollystripe closed her eyes in the warriors' den, settling down near her brother Lionfoot. She was thinking of StarClan, wondering about how they received prophecies and could enter cats' dreams.
Then she thought of her brother Jayfur, and how he reluctantly gave up his position as a warrior apprentice moons back to become what StarClan had destined for him; a medicine cat. With a pang of regret, Hollystripe wondered if she had made the right choice. "You're a fast learner," her previous mentor had said. "and I can teach you all the herbs quickly. Are you sure you want this?" "Yes." she had meowed, then Hollypaw. Now, she wasn't.
She tried to go to sleep, determined to shake off the unhappy thoughts in the sweet fog of sleep. Nothing happened. I might as well hunt, she thought, and opened her eyes. Hollystripe gasped. She was not in camp, but in a dark forest. Hollystripe was painfully reminded of her days as a medicine cat.
Gloomily walking forward, trying to find her ancestors, Hollystripe noticed that this didn't seem like the home of StarClan. It was so gloomy, so dark, like her soul at the moment. Suddenly, two cats appeared before her. Every black hair on her pelt stood up, and her claws slid out. "Who are you?" she growled. "And where are StarClan?"
"Hello, Hollystripe," meowed the first one, a dark brown tabby with amber eyes. "StarClan do not walk here. I am your grandfather, Tigerstar." The other slinked forward. He was a mirror image of Tigerstar, except his eyes were ice blue.
"And I am Hawkfrost, your half uncle." he meowed. "And we have something to tell you." Hollystripe froze. These were two of the most evil cats that walked the forest! Why would they want her?
"If you stay with us, we could make you powerful." said Tigerstar. "Both your father and your brother have refused us, but to hell with those mousebrains. You, Hollystripe, are clever."
"You could be the greatest leader ThunderClan ever had."
"But I don't want to be leader. I just want to be a great warrior, like my friend Hazelgaze!"
"Hazelgaze isn't a great warrior, Hollystripe." snarled Tigerstar.
"One of the worst." his son agreed.
"Why?"
"She's a full-born kittypet." Hollystripe bristled.
"I'm part kittypet!" she growled. "Does that make me a bad warrior?"
"Oh, no, Hollystripe." mewed Hawkforst in a soft tone. "Just full-born kittypets. In your Clan, there's Daisy, Cloudtail, Hazelgaze, Berrystripe, Mouseleap, and Firestar. Squirrelflight, Leafpool, Whitewing, Jayfur, Lionfoot, you, and all the rest part kittypets are alright."
"Kittypets don't believe in the warrior code, StarClan, anything important to the Clans." explained Tigerstar. "All they want is freshkill to stuff their faces with."
"The warrior code? Nothing?" Hollystripe tried to imagine her kind grandfather Firestar breaking the warrior code.
"Yes. Nothing." replied Hawkfrost.
"So, are you ready?" meowed Tigerstar. It was so tempting, to follow the tabbies into the dark forest, to learn how to be a leader and exile all kittypets. But suddenly she saw the blood in her relatives' eyes, slashing of claws as many cats fell dead. The warrior code, Hollystripe. whispered a voice inside her. Just say yes. Hollystripe tried to fight the voice. No. I will not give in. Gathering up her courage, she turned to face Tigerstar and Hawkfrost.
"No." she meowed, steadily, strongly. "If any cats break the warrior code, it's you two. I'm considering taking on an apprentice, therefore giving me a right to become deputy, but I won't try to achieve that position by violence and bloodshed. I want to share dreams with StarClan, not two who are damned by them." Then Hollystripe turned and ran. She kept sprinting until she woke up, panting.
