Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Leafpool jumped at Midnights' words. "Crowfeather, did you hear that? Our Clans could be under attack right at this moment?"
"Could be, Leafpool. We don't know."
"But, Crowfeather, think of your Clan! Ashfoot, Onestar, they might die."
"You're right. But what about...us?" The medicine cat saw worry and love in his eyes.
"Crowfeather..."
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came
Crowfeather wasn't saying anything. They were just going north; back to the new forest. She felt sadness weigh her down. Leafpool imagined how StarClan would blame her for deserting her Clan. They might even ban her from sharing dreams. Oh, why did I ever do this? she wondered.
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Crowfeather turned to Leafpool, and for the first time spoke during their journey home. "I can see the moors." he murmured. "Of the forest, I mean."
"Well, come on! The badgers won't patiently wait for us before they attack!" Leafpool immediately regretted her snappy words, and she saw her mate flinch.
"I still am not sure if this is right...I mean, we could be exiled for putting on paw in this territory!"
Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Leafpool looked shocked. "Crowfeather, if are Clanmates are dying for a badger attack at this very moment, I don't think they'd care if it was Tigerstars' ghost who helped them fight." she said as gently as she could.
"I know you're right, Leafpool, but...I love you. I don't want to let you go...again." Crowfeathers' eyes were blue orbs of misery, and Leafpool flashed back to the time when Crowfeather revealed his true feelings for her.
He was in a trance, it seemed, and Leafpool knew that he was again remembering Feathertail's death. When he had saved her, his words still echoed in her head-"You walk in my dreams, Leafpool."
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to StarClan he hears you
And pray to StarClan he hears you
"Crowfeather, we both know that our love goes against StarClan. I'm a ThunderClan medicine cat, and you're a-"
"WindClan warrior. I know." A pause followed. "Let's go." The tom broke into a sprint, and Leafpool tried to keep up, and didn't succeed. After all, he was a descendant of Windstar, that fastest cat who ever walked the forest.
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
"I might as well give you an escort home." meowed the tom, bitterly. Nodding, as sadness crashed down, she followed him into the familiar forest. Leafpool was almost sure all those whom she was friends with would hate her now; Squirrelflight, Sorreltail, Cinderpelt, Firestar...
As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
They came to the ThunderClan camp. Crowfeather peered down and saw what both of them had been praying not to see-attacking badgers. He gave a yowl of alarm. Leafpool quickly put her tail to his mouth. "Crowfeather, please. They can hear us."
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came
The two cats leapt down. Leafpool immediately sprinted to Firestars' den. She didn't know why. She gasped.
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
There was Sorreltail, giving birth to Brackenfurs' kits. Cinderpelt had obviously tried to help her, but a badger had scratched her heavily. Now, the gray cat lay there, blood flowing and staining the floor of the den.
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
She pushed moss against the flowing blood, desperate to save her mentor. 'I'm losing her, my great friend, why, StarClan? Why?' she thought.
How to save a life
How to save a life
"I'm the worst medicine cat ever!" sobbed the tabby. "I left you here for Crowfeather..."
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
"CINDERPELT!? Cinderpelt...nooooo...." Her mentor was dying. "If I had never left you for Crowfeather...if I had just stayed here..."
"You couldn't help it, Leafpool. This is what StarClan destined for me."
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life
Leafpool pressed her nose into her mentors' pelt, one last time.
