Cinderpaw sighed. It was a few days after her accident and Cinderpaw was bored out of her head. If it wasn't for Yellowfang's companionship and Fireheart's frequent vistits, her situation would have been almost unbearable. Cinderpaw sighed again. Thinking about Fireheart made her heart ache. He was her mentor, and she missed training with him. "You may as well stop mopeing and make yourself useful." The sound of Yellowfang's voice startled Cinderpaw. "You can start by cleaning out this bedding." Yellowfang went on. Cinderpaw was slightly anoyed. She was always aranging herbs or changing bedding. But she didn't dare argue with the old medicine cat, Yellowfang was known for her mood swings. So she started her tasked and prepared herself for a long day. Yellowfang started twards the entrance to the den. "We're short of poppy seeds," Yellowfang observed from behind Cinderpaw. "I'll go find some. Are you fine on your own?" "Yes." Cinderpaw answered quietly. Just as Yellowfang was leaving, Fireheart came in. Her heart lept at the sight of him. "Fireheart! Thanks for coming to see me." Cinderpaw meowed. "I like coming to see you," Firheart purred. "I miss our training sessions." Cinderpaw's face dropped as she dared to say, "Me too. When can I start again?" Fireheart looked away and didn't answer. Cinderpaw wanted to sink to the ground and scream, NO! But instead she meowed bravely, "I'm never going to be a warrior, am I?" "No," Fireheart whispered. "I'm so sorry." He streched out his head and licked her ears.
This time Cinderpaw did sink to the floor. "I knew it really," she managed to say. "I knew I could never be a warrior."
"Don't worry," Fireheart mewed softly. "I'll take you out into the forest again. We'll find the oldest and slowest mouse in the forest. It won't stand a chance against you."
Cinderpaw looked up at Fireheart. His eyes were full of compassion and regret. Cinderpaw let out a weak purr. Fireheart turned to leave. Once he was gone, Cinderpaw buried her face in her paws. She felt like the world had ended.
"Oh, StarClan," she wailed. "How could you do this to me?!"
She suddenly felt a body moving around her, a soft breath in her ear saying, "Peace little one. StarClan are with you now. Your destiny is great, you will now start the role of a medicine cat."
Cinderpaw looked up. She saw a tortiseshell she-cat with stars playing in her fur. She fitted the description of ThunderClan's former medicine cat. "Spottedleaf?" she asked.
"Yes, little one. I know exactly how you feel, If I had lived I would have had to deal with the same things you're going through now." Cinderpaw now longer felt angry or sad. "Thank you," she meowed.
"We will always be with you." Spottedleaf told her again. With that, she vanished, leaving Cinderpaw ready to start her new life as a medicine cat.
